    The Opportunity:

    The Ministry of Government Relations is seeking two motivated professional community planners with superior problem solving, analytical and communication skills to work in the Community Planning Branch in Regina (1 position) or Saskatoon (1 position). Reporting to the Director of Community Planning, the successful candidates will analyze planning proposals, bylaws and subdivision applications for compliance with provincial interests and planning standards; ensure integrated inter-ministry approaches to community development, sustainable infrastructure and land use planning; and consult with organizations and agencies on development issues and policies.

    Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for these positions will be obtained by the completion of a degree in planning or a related field, combined with several years of land use planning experience at a provincial or municipal level.  Preference will be given to those with full membership in the Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures integrated inter-ministry approaches to community development, sustainable infrastructure, asset management, and planning.
    • Consults with organizations and agencies on development issues and policies.
    • Proactively identify challenges and issues with community development and/or asset management.
    • Reviews subdivision applications, implements processes, researches and prepares reports and correspondence.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills:

    • professional community planning principles, legislation and processes as they relate to the preparation of land use plans;
    • facilitation, mediation and negotiation techniques;
    • economic, geographic, cultural and social issues and trends related to planning and development in the province; and
    • various computer software programs and applications.
