    The Opportunity:

    The Ministry of Community Safety, has a career opportunity for a self-confident, positive role model to work at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre in a full-time nurse position.

    We are seeking compassionate, respectful, and empathetic individuals, eager to contribute in a positive way to the challenges of working in a Correctional Centre - a professional who will commit to teamwork and collaboration through their effective communication and interpersonal skills. Our candidate of choice will work with a team of healthcare professionals to provide direct male patient nursing care and treatment.

    To be considered for this position, you will be actively registered (eligible for registration) with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRPN) or the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS). You must have knowledge of medical and psychiatric theories and related intervention strategies; drug/alcohol withdrawal indicators and effects; communicable diseases in a correctional population; public health issues and risk factors, and knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs, values, and perspectives. The successful candidate will work day, evening, and weekend shifts. Shift patterns can be a combination of 8 hours or 12 hours. The hours of work are currently 07:00-22:30, seven days a week, and are subject to change to include night shifts.

    Responsibilities

    • Deliver direct patient care and treatment to incarcerated individuals within a multidisciplinary health team.
    • Lead the development and delivery of nursing support to ensure high-quality care.
    • Promote preventative health measures and respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies with appropriate interventions.
    • Assess physical and mental health conditions, conduct risk assessments, and implement timely care plans and referrals.
    • Maintain accurate patient records and present information clearly to diverse audiences.
    • Lead health education initiatives and collaborate with government agencies, service providers, families, and community organizations to improve care services.
    • Develop specialized health strategies and support plans based on client needs and relevant factors.
    • Prioritize and organize complex tasks under tight timelines and workload pressures.
