The role of the Senior Labour Relations Consultant within the ELR branch provides expert labour relations consulting services to ministries and agencies across the public service. Responsibilities include grievance resolution, arbitration, negotiations, and contract administration. The role also addresses workplace health and safety, labour and employment legislation, and human resource policy issues, ensuring compliance and effective resolution of labour-related matters.
This is a temporary opportunity with the potential for conversion to a permanent full-time position in the future.
Responsibilities
As the Senior Labour Relations Consultant your responsibilities will include:
- Providing comprehensive labour relations advisory and consulting services to ministries and agencies.
- Managing grievance resolution processes, including preparation and representation at arbitration hearings.
- Conducting negotiations and administer collective agreements, ensuring accurate interpretation and application.
- Advising on workplace health and safety issues, labour and employment legislation, and HR policy matters.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to resolve disputes and maintain positive labour-management relationships.
- Researching and analyzing labour relations trends and issues to inform strategies and recommendations.
- Preparing clear, concise reports, briefing notes, and documentation related to labour relations matters.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- knowledge of labour relations, labour and employment law principles, developments, and issues, including Saskatchewan-specific labour relations issues/trends and employment legislation;
- knowledge of trends and practices in collective bargaining, dispute/grievance resolution methodology and practice;
- the proven ability to work effectively in a team-based environment with excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytic, and problem-solving skills;
- a solid track record of building and maintaining credible, collaborative relationships by understanding, involving, engaging, and communicating to diverse clients and stakeholder groups;
- the ability to be persuasive and tactful, and have well-developed written and oral communication, influencing and strong consultative skills; and,
- experience with arbitration and collective bargaining processes.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position is obtained through a bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited university (e.g., a degree in Labour Relations, Business Administration, Commerce, Law, Social Sciences, Humanities, or a related field is desirable) with significant experience in Labour Relations and Human Resources.
