    Job description

    The Clinical Services Director, Crisis Services provides systemwide clinical leadership, oversight, and direction for GRAND Mental Health's crisis continuum of care. This position is responsible for ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered crisis services across all crisis programs and service locations.

    The Clinical Services Director provides direct leadership and supervision to Clinical Managers, establishing clear clinical expectations, standards of practice, and accountability across the crisis system. This position ensures that clinical practices, workflows, documentation standards, clinical pathways, training, competency development, and quality improvement initiatives are consistently implemented across programs.

    The Director serves as a senior clinical subject matter expert for crisis services and provides leadership in complex clinical situations, high-risk cases, critical incidents, clinical escalations, and system-level clinical decision-making. The position works collaboratively with Executive Leadership, Operations, Medical Leadership, Nursing, Care Navigation, Quality, Compliance, and other interdisciplinary departments to ensure safe, effective, coordinated, and clinically appropriate services across the crisis continuum.

    The Clinical Services Director is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong clinical leadership structure that supports Clinical Coordinators and frontline clinical staff while promoting consistency, accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement throughout crisis services.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide systemwide clinical leadership for crisis services and assigned crisis programs.
    • Establish and maintain clinical standards, expectations, and practices across all crisis service locations.
    • Provide direct supervision, leadership, coaching, and accountability to Clinical Managers.
    • Ensure Clinical Managers have the resources, guidance, and support necessary to effectively lead their assigned clinical teams.
    • Serve as the senior clinical subject matter expert for crisis assessment, intervention, stabilization, risk assessment, safety planning, level-of-care determination, and disposition planning.
    • Provide consultation and leadership for complex, high-acuity, high-risk, or clinically challenging situations.
    • Establish consistent clinical decision-making practices across crisis programs.
    • Promote evidence-based, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and person-centered crisis care.
    • Ensure clinical services are aligned with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, contractual expectations, and established crisis pathways.
    • Identify systemwide clinical risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
    • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures for Clinical Coordinators
    • Conduct regular individual supervision and leadership development with Clinical team
    • Provide coaching and consultation related to clinical leadership, staff performance, clinical decision-making, documentation, and risk management.
    • Develop clinical leadership capacity through structured coaching, mentoring, education, and professional development.
    • Ensure Clinical Managers are consistently addressing clinical performance concerns within their assigned programs.
    • Monitor Clinical Manager completion of required clinical audits, case reviews, supervision, competency validation, and corrective action plans.
    • Ensure Clinical Coordinators maintain consistent clinical presence and leadership within assigned programs.
    • Develop succession planning and leadership development strategies for crisis clinical leadership.
    • Establish systemwide clinical quality expectations and performance standards.
    • Oversee clinical audit processes across crisis services.
    • Review systemwide trends in documentation, clinical quality, risk, incidents, dispositions, readmissions, and other clinical performance indicators.
    • Partner with Quality and Compliance to identify systemic gaps and develop corrective action strategies.
    • Ensure corrective action plans are implemented and sustained.
    • Review and analyze clinical data to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop and monitor clinical performance dashboards and key performance indicators.
    • Ensure clinical documentation practices support quality care, regulatory compliance, and appropriate reimbursement.
    • Participate in investigations and reviews involving significant clinical concerns, critical incidents, sentinel events, or other high-risk situations.
    • Ensure lessons learned from incidents and clinical reviews are translated into training, policy, and practice improvements.
    • Lead development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical pathways and standards of practice for crisis services.
    • Review and update clinical policies and procedures to reflect current organizational and regulatory expectations.
    • Oversee development and maintenance of therapeutic programming and clinical curricula.
    • Ensure clinical workflows support efficient movement through the crisis continuum while maintaining clinical quality and safety.
    • Partner with Operations leadership to identify clinical and operational barriers affecting service delivery.
    • Support the development and implementation of new crisis programs, service locations, and clinical initiatives.
    • Provide clinical leadership during program redesign, expansion, restructuring, and implementation of new models of care.
    • Ensure clinical practices remain consistent across locations while allowing for program-specific operational needs.
    • Establish systemwide clinical training priorities and competency expectations.
    • Oversee development of clinical training programs for crisis staff.
    • Ensure Clinical Managers implement required training and competency validation within their assigned programs.
    • Provide or coordinate advanced education related to crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, motivational interviewing, de-escalation, clinical documentation, and other behavioral health best practices.
    • Identify systemwide clinical training gaps and develop strategies to address them.
    • Support onboarding and ongoing competency development for clinical staff and clinical leaders.
    • Partner with Operations Management to ensure clinical and operational functions are appropriately integrated.
    • Collaborate with Medical Leadership and Nursing Leadership regarding clinical risk, medical/behavioral health integration, medication-related concerns, and level-of-care decisions.
    • Partner with Care Navigation to improve continuity of care, discharge planning, referrals, and connection to ongoing services.
    • Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, and other departments as needed to support clinical operations.
    • Participate in executive and senior leadership meetings related to crisis services.
    • Represent clinical services in organizational planning and strategic initiatives.
    • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
    • Participate in the clinical leadership on-call rotation.
    • Provide senior-level clinical consultation for high-risk situations requiring leadership involvement.
    • Respond to urgent clinical escalations and significant clinical concerns.
    • Provide leadership support during critical incidents, sentinel events, significant safety concerns, and other emergency situations.
    • Ensure appropriate escalation pathways are followed when clinical concerns exceed program-level authority or capacity.
    • Current unrestricted Oklahoma licensure as a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (LBHP), including LCSW, LPC, LADC-MH, LMFT, or another independently licensed behavioral health professional.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of direct behavioral health clinical experience.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical leadership, supervision, management, or program leadership experience.
    • Demonstrated experience supervising licensed behavioral health professionals and/or clinical leaders.
    • Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention, behavioral health assessment, suicide risk assessment, crisis stabilization, trauma-informed care, and clinical risk management.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead across multiple programs, service locations, and clinical teams.
    • Strong understanding of behavioral health regulations, documentation standards, quality improvement, and clinical compliance.
    • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical situations and competing priorities while maintaining sound clinical judgment.

    Additional Duties

    • Participation in the after-hours clinical leadership on-call rotation is required.
    • Travel between crisis service locations may be required.
    • Ability to respond effectively to high-stress, emergency, and rapidly changing clinical environments.
    • Ability to lead through organizational change, program development, and system-level clinical initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Maintain systemwide clinical chart audit compliance at 95% or greater.
    • Ensure 100% completion of required clinical audits, case reviews, corrective action plans, training, competency validation, and clinical supervision activities within established timelines.
    • Maintain consistent clinical standards and pathways across crisis service locations.
    • Demonstrate measurable improvement in identified systemwide clinical quality indicators.
    • Ensure Clinical Managers meet established performance and clinical leadership expectations.
    • Identify and address systemwide clinical trends, risks, and performance gaps.
    • Ensure clinical policies, pathways, and training materials are reviewed and updated as required.
    • Improve clinical quality through ongoing consultation, leadership development, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Promote fidelity to crisis clinical pathways, documentation standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
    • Provide timely senior-level consultation for high-risk clinical situations and significant clinical escalations.
    • Foster effective collaboration between Clinical Services, Operations, Medical, Nursing, Care Navigation, Quality, Compliance, and Executive Leadership.
    • Develop and maintain a strong, accountable clinical leadership structure across the crisis continuum.
