Position Overview

The Yard Hand plays a key role in maintaining the yard, supporting transport and environmental teams, handling equipment, and ensuring safe and compliant operations. This position performs physical labor, operates heavy machinery (with training provided), assists with spill cleanup, and ensures the facility is properly maintained to support daily operations and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain appearance of the yard, including burning/spraying weeds and cleaning spills.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions. 
• Operate heavy machinery safely; training provided as needed. 
• Assist with incoming trucks by performing waste stream testing and taking proper samples. 
• Complete Chain of Custody (COC) forms accurately for all samples. 
• Monitor pond water levels and ensure proper functioning for equipment operations. 
• Fuel machinery each morning and evening to ensure equipment is ready for use. 
• Perform opening and closing procedures and work occasional Saturdays (approximately once per month). 

• Collaborate with Landfarm Manager, Transport, Environmental, Scale House, and other crew members.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Positive attitude, reliable work ethic, and willingness to learn. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow procedures. 
• Ability to work with managers and team members to uphold policies and safety standards. 
• Physically able to lift, squat, stand for long periods, and perform outdoor labor.

Education and Experience Required

• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Landscaping or outdoor labor experience preferred. 
• Basic understanding of working with equipment and machinery. 
• Commonsense decision making and willingness to work safely.
• Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. 
• Ability to use phones and digital tools for documentation. 
• Willingness to learn equipment operation (generators, heavy equipment, tools).
