As a Campus Organizer, you’ll be at the forefront of building a brighter future for all of us — from protecting our environment and safeguarding public health, to standing up to threats to our democracy and protecting consumers from a predatory marketplace. We believe the best place to start making the changes we want, and to develop the leaders we need, is on college campuses. We’re hiring campus organizers to work on over 100 college campuses to help students get organized, mobilized and energized and start building a greener, healthier future for all of us.
This is a short-term position, lasting for roughly a semester-length on campus. Longer-term positions are also available and can be found on our website.
As a semester campus organizer, you’ll work for a semester-term with one or more college campuses alongside passionate student activists as you help them develop and run strategic campaigns on some of the biggest issues our society is facing. Key responsibilities include:
- Recruiting and inspiring hundreds of people to volunteer to collect petitions, host campaign events and more.
- Helping students run strategic campaigns. Recruit and train students to run campaigns such as eliminating single-use plastics, protecting our remaining wildlife and special places, making college more affordable and more.
- Building a coalition. Work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations.
- Training students to be effective social change leaders. We teach students how to organize educational events in their community, work with reporters to get media coverage for their campaigns, build grassroots support, advocate solutions to their elected officials and more.
- Building a strong, sustainable, student-funded and student-run organization on campus by fundraising, building relationships with key players on campus and building our organizational brand.
- Build the movement by recruiting volunteers, interns and more organizers to work with us.
- This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance.
We’re looking for candidates who
- Have an interest in environmental, public interest and/or student issues, and have leadership experience on a campus or in their community.
- Are looking for a short-term position to learn the ropes of organizing on important issues.
- Are goal-driven and results-oriented.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Are driven, work well with all kinds of people and aren’t afraid to get outside their comfort zones.
- Are passionate about making positive change. Change takes time, and is often incremental; we’re looking for people who are excited to work hard every day, even if it’s just for one small step in the right direction.
Compensation and benefits
This position is approximately 3-4 months. Pay and benefits are prorated for the length of your position, based on this target annual package: The target annual compensation range for this position is $40,000-$44,450 and depends on location, experience and start date. Student PIRGs organizations offer an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package for short-term staff includes medical insurance for employees and dependents after 90 days on staff, paid sick time (60-72 hours/year depending on location, prorated for the length of your position), and a commuter benefit program.
