Job Description Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Hospice Administrator to oversee and manage the daily operations of our hospice program. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our hospice patients receive high-quality, holistic care that focuses on improving their quality of life during their final stages. The Administrator is responsible for the overall direction of the hospice services.  He/she is responsible for the employment of qualified hospice personnel; is responsible for the provision of hospice services, directly, and the delegation to and coordination of hospice personnel evaluations; is responsible for establishing standards of care to comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines.  The Administrator establishes, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

1. Program Management:
   1. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure the smooth operation of the hospice program.
   2. Supervise and support the hospice care team, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers.
   3. Directing staff in performance of their duties including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to patients.
   4. Ensuring appropriate staff supervision during all service hours.
   5. Monitoring service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care.
   6. Ensuring services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice.
   7. Ensuring collaboration with agencies and vendors for effective management of services.
   8. Ensuring standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.
2. Regulatory Compliance:
   1. Stay up-to-date with federal and state regulations related to hospice care and ensure organizational compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
   2. Maintain accurate records and documentation necessary for compliance and reporting.
   3. Establishing and maintaining effective channels of communication including integration or technology, as applicable.
   4. Ensuring hospice personnel stay current with clinical information and practices.
   5. Assures that all business conduct is above minimum standards required by law and will not condone any activities that achieve results through violation of the law, unethical business or patient care practices.
3. Patient Care:
   1. Work closely with the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, and coordinate care for hospice patients.
   2. Ensure that patients and their families receive emotional, spiritual, and medical support to enhance their quality of life.
   3. Ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing.
   4. Evaluating hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.
4. Family Support:
   1. Provide support and education to the families of hospice patients, addressing their needs and concerns.
   2. Facilitate discussions about end-of-life care and advance directives.
   3. Ensuring that interdisciplinary care is provided.
5. Financial Management:
   1. Manage the budget for the hospice program, including resource allocation, cost control, and revenue generation.
   2. Operational planning and budgeting.
   3. Monitor insurance claims and reimbursement processes.
   4. Monitoring business operations to insure financial stability.
6. Quality Assurance:
   1. Monitor the quality of care provided by the hospice team and implement improvements as needed.
   2. Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
   3. Conflict and complaint management and resolution.
   4. Staff development including orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing and quality assessment performance improvement.
   5. Monitoring operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic goals.

 Position Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in health care management.  Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.  Has an ability to deal tactfully with the community.  Has knowledge of corporate business management.  Understands hospice care and the services provided to patient and family/caregiver through an interdisciplinary group. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Compassion, empathy, and the ability to support patients and their families during difficult times. Knowledge of hospice regulations, Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, and healthcare compliance.
