Survey/Geospatial Technician II, Midland, TX
Halff has an immediate opening for an experienced Survey/Geospatial Technician II in our Midland, TX office. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with experience producing survey maps, plats, and other survey deliverables who is looking to continue growing their technical expertise and career.
As a member of our Survey team, you will support a variety of surveying and geospatial projects by researching, processing, analyzing, and preparing survey data and mapping deliverables. This role offers the opportunity for professional development, career advancement, and employee ownership within an employee-owned firm.
What you will do:
- Organize and compile survey research, including deeds, plats, easements, and other supporting documents.
- Process, reduce, and analyze survey field data, including field notes, digital imagery, GIS information, and COGO calculations.
- Prepare survey plats, topographic maps, as-built exhibits, land parcel maps, legal descriptions, and other project deliverables.
- Develop survey drawings and digital terrain models using CAD and geospatial software.
- Assist with boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and related survey projects.
- Prepare TxDOT parcel exhibits, ROW maps, and associated right-of-way documentation.
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to ensure project objectives and deliverables are met.
- Operate and maintain surveying equipment and software used for data collection and analysis.
- Prepare survey reports and supporting documentation for review by the Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS).
- Adhere to company safety standards, industry regulations, and quality control procedures.
What you will need:
- 5+ years of experience as a Survey Technician or Survey/Geospatial Technician.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional surveying education or vocational training preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience producing survey maps, plats, and related survey deliverables.
- Experience preparing legal descriptions.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.
- Proficiency with surveying equipment, including total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Experience with CAD software and survey data processing workflows.
- Understanding of land surveying principles, practices, and terminology.
- Basic knowledge of GIS applications and geospatial data.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Survey Technician Preferred Requirements:
- SIT or CSR I, II, or III certification.
- Previous survey field experience.
- Oil and gas survey experience.
- Public Works and/or Land Development survey experience.
- Experience with MicroStation V8i, GeoPAK, and OpenRoads Designer.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
- TxDOT experience.
