At Hancock Lumber, we call this role Inside Sales Support. This position plays a key role in supporting contractors, builders, remodelers, homeowners, and the sales team throughout the customer journey. The role focuses on customer service, order coordination, project support, communication, and ensuring customers receive the products and information they need to keep projects moving forward.
This is not a commissioned sales role. Instead, you'll work closely with Account Managers, Project Pros, Counter Pros, delivery teams, vendors, and customers to help create an exceptional customer experience while supporting profitable sales growth.
What You'll Do
- Support contractors, builders, remodelers, and homeowners throughout the ordering and project process.
- Assist customers by phone, email, and in person with product questions, order updates, and project needs.
- Prepare quotes, enter orders, coordinate special orders, and monitor customer requests.
- Partner with Account Managers and Project Pros to support customer projects and business relationships.
- Coordinate with yard, delivery, purchasing, and vendor partners to ensure materials are available and delivered accurately.
- Follow up on quotes, orders, backorders, and customer inquiries.
- Maintain accurate customer, pricing, and order information within company systems.
- Develop knowledge of building materials, product applications, and contractor needs.
- Help identify solutions that meet customer project requirements while supporting company sales goals.
- Work collaboratively with location employees to provide a seamless customer experience.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and company standards.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using computers and technology for order entry, quoting, communication, and customer support.

- Interest in learning building materials, construction products, and contractor workflows.
- Previous experience in customer service, sales support, project coordination, building materials, construction, or related fields is helpful but not required.
