Reporting to the Geotechnical Engineer the primary objective of this role is to install and maintain geotechnical monitoring systems and equipment in the field, perform tests, take samples, readings or measurements, enter data, and maintain records and/or data storage systems.
This role will be site based at the Hidden Valley Mine on FIFO for PNG Nationals only working on a 14/7 roster.
Responsibilities
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Ensure Job Specific Safety Skills and Responsibilities are met.
- Contribute to the implementation of the company Health and Safety system and site.
- Initiate new orders for stock.
- Complete stores records accurately to maintain correct stock records.
- Ensure all field supplies are adequate, on hand and if need be order and purchase field consumables (in consultation with the Geotechnical Engineer).
- Maintenance of company field equipment and vehicles.
- Contribute to the communication of data to management.
- Contribute to the preparation of geotechnical reports.
- Contribute to the manipulation and storage of field data to maintain data integrity.
- Complete the downloading of data from monitoring equipment to ensure the completion of regulatory and company monitoring programs.
- Ensure geotechnical data collected are accurately recorded and continuously update on the digital database.
- Assist in ensuring adequate spare parts are always available to maintain equipment.
- Ensure monitoring equipment is functioning correctly at all times.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
- Communicate geotechnical concerns raised by stakeholders to management.
- Contribute to the timely completion of geotechnical monitoring programs to meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Contribute to the calibration of measurement instruments including field calibrations.
- Arrange for delivery of samples to appropriate Laboratories.
- Carrying, labelling, packaging and transporting samples.
- Carry out field Geotechnical Engineering tests.
- Sample for rock & soil testing for engineering purposes.
- Perform RQD & recovery logs at drilling sites.
- Carry out drilling supervision including SPT tests.
- Provide progressive updates to the Geotechnical Engineer.
- Daily monitoring and collection of geotechnical data.
- Communicate geotechnical concerns raised by stakeholders to management.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Completion of Grade 12 school education and an appropriate technical school certificate or diploma.
- Generally 2 to 5 years of practical working experience in mine geotechnical work or related extractive industry field.
- Proven exposure to geotechnical core logging, rock/soil mapping techniques, and slope performance monitoring
- Be computer literate with Microsoft Officer suite and Access.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work without minimum supervisor.
- Current PNG Driver's Licence Class 3 or 6.
- Be proactive and field oriented.

About The Team
The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2,800m and 1,700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forrested terrain that experience approximately 3,000mm of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Grben. Crushed ore is conveyed and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for gold.
