JOB OBJECTIVE
The Lab Instructor, Applied Communications supports faculty and students within one or more Media/Design/Broadcasting/Communication program areas by maintaining the Department's equipment, facilities including studios/laboratories and workshops. The role includes running, monitoring and evaluating studio/workshop/lab hours that familiarize students with the equipment, tools and operations of studio, labs and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and trouble-shooting of equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role which will have the Lab Instructor working closely with faculty and students with the Studios, workshops and laboratory. The Lab Instructor sets up the studios, workshops, lab in preparation for projects/ experiments and will include up to 10 hours per week of instructional duties.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline is required
- Membership to a relevant internationally recognized professional association is highly desirable
- First Aid qualification is desirable
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Preference is given to candidates with at least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in Broadcast/
- Media/Design/Training Industry
- Experience in supervising small studio and outside broadcast operations.
- Highly efficient in use of various Software used in Applied Media, especially Adobe products
- Should be able to work in both Windows and Mac environment.
- Practical skills as evident by knowledge of instruments and devices, relevant equipment and facilities
- used within the studios, lab, and other workshop tools and equipment
- Practical knowledge about using still/ video camera/operating TV and Radio studios and operating
- printers, projectors and other educational technology tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of studio operations and safety protocol
- A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with
- people at all levels of the organization
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment and to cope with
- pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment
- A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and
- improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
- Previous teaching assistant experience is desirable
LANGUAGE
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
- Working knowledge of Arabic desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides teaching assistance to Applied Media Faculty during studio hours, workshop and laboratory sessions
- Assists in the development and maintenance of teaching materials
- Demonstrates the use of computers, cameras, lights, mixers and studio equipment
- Supports faculty and students in the design, planning and execution of student projects as required
- Receives, installs and maintains lab equipment and supplies
- Maintains a schedule of preventative maintenance for all equipment and keeps adequate manuals and maintenance logs for equipment and parts
- Controls the distribution of consumable materials and ensures adequate inventory levels for supplies within the lab
- Maintains systems and procedures to track borrowed equipment and tools
- Observes and reinforces safety and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the lab
- Contributes to the development of the HCT by observing and implementing College and system-wide
- policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
- Travels to other HCT colleges to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
- Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of HCT students and employees
- Will perform teaching duties as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
