    About the Role:

    The Surface Welder Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of metal components through expert welding techniques. This position involves applying specialized welding processes to repair, reinforce, or build up surfaces on various metal parts, often to extend their service life or prepare them for further manufacturing steps. The technician will work closely with engineering and quality teams to interpret blueprints and welding specifications, ensuring all work meets stringent industry standards and safety regulations. Attention to detail and precision are paramount, as the quality of welds directly impacts the performance and safety of the final product. Ultimately, the Surface Welder Technician contributes to the overall success of manufacturing or maintenance operations by delivering high-quality, durable welds that meet or exceed client expectations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of a certified welding training program or apprenticeship.
    • Proven experience in surface welding or a related welding discipline.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
    • Familiarity with welding safety standards and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent.
    • Experience working with a variety of metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
    • Knowledge of welding inspection techniques and non-destructive testing methods.
    • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform surface welding tasks using various welding techniques such as TIG, MIG, and stick welding to repair or enhance metal components.
    • Interpret and follow detailed blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications to ensure accurate weld placement and quality.
    • Inspect welded surfaces for defects and perform necessary adjustments or repairs to meet quality standards.
    • Maintain welding equipment and ensure all tools are in safe, working condition before and after use.
    • Collaborate with engineers, quality control personnel, and other technicians to troubleshoot welding issues and improve processes.
    • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and industry regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Document welding activities, including materials used, weld parameters, and inspection results for quality assurance purposes.
