    GENERAL SUMMARY:
    The Nursing Education Specialist is an advanced practice nurse who provides leadership and works in partnership with nursing, the health care team and system leaders to develop a quality practice setting that supports professional nursing practice and quality patient care.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    People

    Functions as an expert resource and consultant to management and staff on nursing, education and professional practice.
    Works collaboratively and provides leadership to nurses and multidisciplinary teams to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care delivery systems.

    Service
    Anticipates and exceeds patients and customers’ expectations that meet all elements of the Henry Ford Experience.

    Quality and Safety
    Performs project management work of a complex nature to improve practice and quality of care. May include: developing and refining project objectives and work plan, guiding activities of project team, facilitating and/or leading meetings and teams, providing periodic updates to administration, preparing reports and coordinating/providing written and verbal presentations.

    Designs and implements program evaluation methods to elicit results useful in development of new programs or revisions of current programs. Analyses data for future comparisons and improvements.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) from accredited institution required;

    Minimum five years clinical experience and two years of teaching experience in a university or college and/or hospital/health care institution.

    Competence in curriculum or program design, development and evaluation.

    Effective interpersonal skills, problem solving and organizational skills.

    Demonstrated ability to inspire commitment and to energize people to achieve mutual goals.

    Must be self directed and able to work independently. Ability to integrate knowledge of cultural diversity into role.

    Possesses broad knowledge of health care systems, trends, and the care continuum.

    Communicates effectively orally, in writing and through technology.
