Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will:
- Process and distribute prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to patients at discharge
- Enter prescription data into the computer system and maintain accurate records in compliance with pharmacy standards
- Handle patient payments and process billing transactions, including insurance verification and prior authorization requests
- Stock, organize, and maintain pharmacy inventory with attention to expiration dates and proper storage conditions
- Communicate and interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff, including nursing and discharge planning teams
- Provide basic medication counseling and patient education under pharmacist supervision, ensuring patients understand proper medication usage
- Verify prescription accuracy and completeness prior to patient pickup, flagging any discrepancies for pharmacist review
- Coordinate with clinical departments to ensure timely medication availability for patient discharge
- Handle controlled substances and other restricted medications in accordance with state and federal regulations
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Minimum of six (6) months of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Requires valid State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
