Head of Engineering

## Summary We’re looking for a **Head of Engineering** to join HeyCharge and lead the development of our groundbreaking EV charging technology. You’ll oversee the architecture, planning, and execution of our full product ecosystem — from embedded firmware and hardware to mobile apps, backend systems, and web front ends. Your leadership will ensure that HeyCharge’s technology remains secure, scalable, and years ahead of the competition.

This is not a “people manager in a corner office” role — you’ll be a **hands-on technical leader** who moves fluently between domains, supporting team members working on BLE firmware one moment and Flutter SDKs or backend APIs the next. You’ll set technical direction, build and mentor a world-class engineering team, and drive the systems that power reliable EV charging everywhere — even offline. ## About HeyCharge HeyCharge is a Munich-based startup on a mission to make EV charging more accessible, reliable, and affordable.

While hardware is required for EV charging, it’s incidental to our core offering: our powerful platform simplifies the entire lifecycle of EV charger management. From installation and billing to monitoring and load management, HeyCharge enables property operators to offer EV charging as an amenity without the complexity. As a full-service Charge Point Operator (CPO) in Germany, we work with leading property owners and asset managers to deliver turnkey charging solutions.

At the same time, our patented **SecureCharge** technology powers a global platform, allowing other CPOs and OEMs to build their own services with offline-capable, cost-effective, and secure charging infrastructure. With backing from leading investors (including Y Combinator) and a growing international footprint, HeyCharge is scaling rapidly across Europe and beyond. ## Responsibilities * Lead engineering across **embedded software, hardware, backend, mobile, and web**. * Define and evolve the **technical architecture and roadmap** for HeyCharge’s technology platform. * Oversee development of **BLE/Zigbee firmware**, **Flutter mobile apps and SDKs**, **Google Cloud backend services**, and **React-based web applications**. * Support team members across disciplines, moving fluently between hardware, firmware, and software topics. * Drive a culture of **automation, scalability, and technical excellence**. * Collaborate closely with product and operations to translate vision into delivered solutions. * Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization. ## Qualifications * Strong background in **software engineering** required. * Experience with **physical product development a plus.** * Experience with **Google Cloud Platform**, and proficiency in **C/C++**, **Rust**, **TypeScript**, and **Python**. * Experience with **BLE, Zigbee, and wireless SoCs / radio stacks**. * Proven experience with **mobile app development (Flutter)** and cross-platform SDKs. * Ability to navigate seamlessly between **embedded**, **mobile**, **backend**, and **frontend** domains. * Strong **leadership and communication skills**. * **Automation-first mentality** and attention to reliability, scalability, and maintainability. ## Personal Characteristics * **Builder mindset:** You create order, structure, and systems that make life easier. * **Ownership mentality:** You take responsibility and see things through without being asked twice. * **Automation-first:** You seek out ways to streamline repetitive tasks and free up time for higher-value work. * **Relationship builder:** You inspire trust, build strong relationships, and represent HeyCharge with warmth and professionalism. * **Adaptable:** You’re comfortable in a high-growth, ever-changing environment, and not afraid to jump into finance or ops tasks when needed.
