We're looking for an ambitious and highly analytical Data Science Engineer to join our growing Analytics team based full-time at our Eastleigh office. This is an exciting opportunity to work with large-scale sensor datasets, develop innovative machine learning and condition monitoring solutions, and help deliver industry-leading analytics capabilities to customers worldwide.

This role would suit someone with a strong academic background, ideally educated to Master's or PhD level in a STEM discipline, who has already gained some commercial experience applying data science, machine learning, or analytics techniques in a professional environment.

You'll be a naturally curious problem solver, someone who enjoys turning complex data into actionable insights and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged.

    Some key responsibilities

    • Analyse complex sensor and operational datasets to identify trends, patterns and valuable customer insights.

    • Design, develop and refine condition monitoring and machine learning algorithms.

    • Develop software and analytical tools to support business and customer requirements.

    • Work closely with cross-functional engineering and analytics teams on new capability development.

    • Produce clear technical reports, presentations and visualisations for both internal and external audiences.

    • Contribute to continuous improvement of analytical approaches, tools and processes.

    • Support production analytics systems and help investigate performance issues and technical challenges.

    About you

You'll bring a combination of strong technical capability, commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

    Essential

    • Degree, Master's or PhD in a STEM subject.

    • Strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB or a similar language.

    • Experience analysing and interpreting complex datasets.

    • Understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning principles.

    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to different audiences.

    • Demonstrated experience delivering technical or research-based projects.

    • A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and a genuine desire to learn and develop.

    Desirable

    • PhD in a relevant STEM discipline.

    • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.

    • Experience applying AI technology to complex engineering / data science applications

    • Knowledge of software engineering practices such as version control and continuous integration.

    • .NET programming experience.

    • Experience within predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, vibration analysis or industrial analytics.

    • Experience within rail, transport or other engineering-intensive industries.

    What we offer

We value the importance of all of our employees. If you would like to join our fantastic organisation, you could be entitled to:

    • Competitive salary

    • 25 days holiday

    • Pension scheme with contributions up to 9%
