The Research Office (RO) delivers central administrative services across a broad spectrum of research support, including grants and funding schemes, research ethics, integrity and policy, research committees, research culture and infrastructure, and institution-level partnerships and collaborations.
We are seeking a dynamic, meticulous and bilingual professional to join our team as Manager. Reporting to senior management, you will lead the University’s engagement with Mainland research funding schemes, support cross-boundary research collaboration, and administer the awarded funds in full compliance with Mainland and Hong Kong requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Manage Chinese Mainland-related research funding opportunities, including NSFC/RGC Joint Research Scheme, Collaborative Research Scheme and Young Research Scheme; NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund and National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Hong Kong and Macao); MOST Mainland–Hong Kong Joint Funding Scheme; and relevant Guangdong, Shenzhen and other GBA schemes;
- Monitor, interpret and disseminate calls, guidelines and policy developments from NSFC, MOST and Mainland provincial/municipal funding bodies, and provide end-to-end support for applications — from briefing applicants and checking eligibility to vetting proposals and budgets and coordinating submissions through the relevant systems;
- Ensure compliance with the differing regulatory, financial, procurement, ethics, data-transfer and audit requirements on both sides of the boundary, and build strong working relationships with our Institute for Research and Continuing Education (IRACE), NSFC Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, MOST, provincial and municipal science and technology departments, the RGC, and Mainland collaborating institutions;
- Maintain records and management reports on Mainland funding applications, awards and outcomes, and assist in developing related policies and processes; and
- Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- A good bachelor’s degree or above, preferably with a postgraduate qualification;
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the higher education or research sector; direct, hands-on experience with Mainland research funding schemes would be a strong advantage;
- Sound understanding of the different research funding, financial, ethics and data-governance regimes operating in the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong;
- Excellent command of written and spoken Chinese (including Putonghua), together with a good command of written and spoken English;
- Good project management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively with academic staff, senior management and external partners; and
- Strong sense of responsibility, meticulous, detailed-minded and able to multitask with the help of AI tools.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
