THE OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

The mission of the Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS) is to provide integrated academic excellence support along with career exploration and development programs to attain stellar persistence, retention, graduation, career, and post-graduate outcomes.

THE ACADEMIC CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE

The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) serves as the central academic services hub for undergraduate students. ACE leads new orientation, high-impact academic and career advising, learning support, merit scholar development, and related support services to help undergraduate students persist and graduate in accordance with the goals of the University’s strategic plan.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Associate Director leads ACE Learning Support & Success Initiatives under the guidance of the Senior Director of ACE. The position oversees learning support services and success initiatives which includes new orientation and transition programming along with retention and persistence activities that advance student achievement and degree completion.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Supervises two direct professional staff and student employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, and staff. External contacts may include parents, caregivers, consultants, and the public. Telework may be offered during non-peak periods.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work with OUS leadership, ACE staff, and direct reports to advance strategic student success goals.

• Provide leadership and oversight through strategic planning, supervision, collaboration, assessment, and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate with campus partners to implement high-impact student success practices.
• Oversee tutoring, placement testing, academic coaching, academic recovery support, and success workshops.

• Strengthen referrals, academic interventions, retention practices, and coordinated student support with campus partners.

• Teach College Study Skills courses.

• Provide strategic oversight for success initiatives, including new student orientation and retention and persistence programming.

• Integrate coaching and transition practices that strengthen learning, academic confidence, and persistence.

• Establish unit goals, outcomes, assessment measures, and reporting priorities.

• Supervise, develop, and evaluate professional staff and student employees.

• Analyze data to assess outcomes, guide improvement, and inform student success programming. Develop periodic reports.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated leadership, supervision, training, assessment, and project management experience. Experience using data and student information systems to improve student success services.
