Research Data Expert

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking aResearch Data Expert to join our Data team. Data is a cornerstone of HRT’s trading strategies, serving as the raw fuel that powers research, automated trading, and risk management.

In this role, you will own a specific area of expertise, working on sourcing junior data engineers, platform engineers, and alpha researchers to build and maintain trading strategies. You will also be responsible for providing fully featurized datasets to statistical modeling researchers.

HRT does not have information siloes. You will be collaborating directly with our researchers and will be responsible for driving  the business forward through rigorous data analysis and delivery. You will also manage the full end-to-end pipeline from vendor downloads to trading-ready data. As an expert in one area, you will mentor junior data engineers, assisting and validating their work, and will partner with our sourcing team to identify optimal opportunities for data procurement. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality service by implementing rigorous data checks and alerts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain fully featurized datasets for statistical modeling research
• Serve as the subject matter expert for a designated data domain
• Provide technical support and guidance to researchers on vendor data and derived datasets
• Mentor and direct junior data engineers, including performing code and data output validation
• Partner with the sourcing team to identify and evaluate new data procurement opportunities.Analyze data to identify and improve alpha
• Manage the full end-to-end data pipeline, from raw vendor ingestion to refined feature sets
• Provide on-call support for data issues during normal business hours
• Design and implement automated data quality checks and monitoring alerts

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills (Python/R preferred) and proficiency in data science methodologies
• 5+ years of professional experience in a specific data domain (e.g., alternative data, fundamentals, security reference, or economic data)
• Proven track record of building alpha through detailed data analysisExceptional attention to detail
• Undergraduate degree in a STEM field

The estimated base salary range for this position is 200,000 to 300,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
