    Job description

    HRDI is seeking Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse to assist the Mental Health Psychiatrist with clinic. Review and assess all medications brought in by the clients upon entry to the residential program.

    Job duties include:

    • Assist OMH Psychiatric with clinical duties which include assessing mental health needs, developing care plans for patients and helping clients improve their coping abilities.
    • Monitoring treatment regimens by ensuring the correct administration of medication, including injections, and monitoring the results of treatment;
    • Complete Nursing Assessments for all new clients: The nursing assessment needs to be done within 24-48 hours of admission.  Any identified issues or concerns must be listed on the assessment form and referrals made for appropriate follow up. This assessment must include, but is not limited to: Height; Weight; Vital signs, including pain assessment; a functional assessment, including activities of daily living (ADLs); the potential risk for falls; the ability to self-administer medications, including any limitations, special circumstances, or individual requirements; an evaluation of high-risk behaviors; and significant medical or psychiatric conditions affecting client care.
    • Offer Hepatitis A & B referrals and complete Hepatitis C immunizations: Hepatitis C testing must be conducted on all Clients in MH Residential programs along with an antibody test and confirmatory testing done for viremia if the Hepatitis C antibody is positive. Clients will be given the opportunity to complete Hepatitis A & B screening on a yearly basis.
    • Offer referrals for Human Immunodeficiency Virus testing: Routine Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) testing must be offered to all clients in MH Residential programs. Voluntary, routine HIV screening is recommended for clients at least once and HIV testing must be offered at least annually for clients with on-going risk factors. Verbal consent is required prior to HIV testing, written information material regarding HIV must be provided to clients, and documentation of consent is required in the medical record. Clients will be referred to the Prevention Department for the actual testing.
    • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a current state administered nursing license as indicated under the Nurse Practice Act [225 ILCS 65] with at least one year of clinical experience in a mental health setting.
    • Knowledge skills and ability to recognize potentially dangerous situations to self in the clinic, office, home and community setting, and take appropriate action;
    • Ability to form and sustain effective relationships with clients, and community health and social service providers;
    • Ability to be flexible, manage time, resources, and client caseload;
    • Demonstrate respect and appreciation for diversity (culturally relevant, anti-bias, and multicultural);
    • Demonstrate a willingness/ability to work with the interdisciplinary team to provide optimum care;
