Maintenance Technician

Hynds is looking for a skilled, safety-conscious Maintenance Technician to join our team at Canada Crescent. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you'll play a key role in maintaining the availability and reliability of all the mechanical plant on site. It's a genuinely hands-on, varied role — one day you'll be planning scheduled maintenance, the next you'll be fault-finding a breakdown or fabricating a custom solution in the workshop. What You'll Be Doing

• Planning and executing scheduled and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment
• Fabrication and welding (Arc, MIG, TIG), including assembly of high-specification production equipment
• Working the lathe, mill, press and other workshop equipment
• Fault-finding and root cause analysis to minimise breakdowns and extend plant life
• Managing mechanical spare parts inventory and the equipment refurbishment process
• Supporting plant shutdowns and safe machinery isolation
• Helping develop Standard Operating Procedures and train the operations teams
• Maintaining high housekeeping and 5S standards
• Contributing to health and safety, cost control, and continuous improvement

What You'll Bring

• Qualified Mechanical Technician — Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent
• Proven maintenance fitter experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Welding experience across MIG, TIG and Arc
• Experience with conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, chains and drive systems
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Basic electrical fault-finding and industrial controls
• Experience with pumps, motors and industrial machinery
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics
• Strong fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with SOPs, 5S and safe work practices
• Computer literacy and competent written and verbal English
• Full NZ Class 1 driver's licence
• Ability to work day and night shifts as required
• Physically capable of manual handling up to 20kg, working at heights and in confined spaces
