Nurse Practitioner

Job Title: Nurse Practitioner Job Description Summary The person in this position functions in the Clinic and/or OR setting under the supervision of his/her assigned physician; may perform activities which involve an initial evaluation and treatment of the patient’s condition, as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards. Responsibilities Hospital/Surgical Activities Secures patients’ history and physical and records same in medical record Assists surgeon with daily rounds and records such as progress notes Ensures the delivery of required patient x-rays to the operating room prior to operative procedure Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room.

Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed Closes surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound care, removal of K-wires, etc. Transmits supervising surgeon’s orders and ensures co-signature by surgeon Inserts foley catheters, prn Applies dressings, casts, splint brace, abduction pillows, etc. Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied health Performs minor surgical procedures within scope of licensure Performs and/or assists with patient traction, adjustment, realignment and removal of traction Dictates H&P’s, consultations and discharge summaries Clinic Activities Performs joint aspirations/injections Interprets x-rays Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician Secures histories and physicals.

Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits. Removes staples, sutures, drains, etc. Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval Other Functions Performs clinical research, presentations, and other academic activities, as needed with physicians Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls Maintain a clean and safe work environment Other duties as assigned
