    Job description

About Us: Inca Digital is a veteran-owned data and intelligence company specializing in digital-asset analytics for exchanges, financial institutions, regulators, and blockchain ecosystems. We track blockchain transactions, liquidity movements, and illicit finance to help our clients identify risk and enhance transparency. Operating as a fast-paced, remote-first company, we leverage an asynchronous-first workflow, minimize time spent on meetings, and believe in open debate and logic over authority. By joining us, you will work alongside a sharp, cross-functional team that includes intelligence analysts, defense veterans, data engineers, and quant researchers.

Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This position will play a key role in processing payroll, supporting the month-end close process, and assisting the Financial Controller with daily accounting operations.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Experience with payroll processing is required, while familiarity with government contracting or project accounting is desirable.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    Payroll Administration

      • Process bi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule.
      • Maintain employee payroll records, timekeeping, and payroll-related documentation.
      • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
      • Coordinate payroll changes, including new hires, employee status changes, and terminations.
      • Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll tax reporting and year-end activities.
      • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.

    Accounting & Financial Operations

      • Assist the Financial Controller with month-end and year-end close activities.
      • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
      • Assist with general ledger maintenance and financial reporting.
      • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
      • Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses, accruals, and balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
      • Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
      • Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests.

    General Responsibilities

      • Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
      • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
      • Collaborate with Finance, HR, and Project Management teams.
      • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
    • 2–5 years of accounting experience.
    • Payroll processing experience required.
    • Experience with general ledger accounting and month-end closing.
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
    • Government contracting or project accounting experience is a plus.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supporting government contractors.
    • Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, or project accounting concepts.
    • Experience with payroll reconciliations and labor allocations.
    • Knowledge of project costing and contract billing.

    Why join us?

    • We operate in a fully remote, high-trust environment and we prioritize impact and delivered results over hours logged.
    • We offer competitive compensation paired with a comprehensive benefits suite, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
    • We invest in our people through childcare and wellness stipends and dedicated employee assistance resources.
    • Join a thought leader at the intersection of national security and digital assets, working with cutting-edge tech that defines the field.

Inclusion & Equal Opportunity: As a veteran-owned company, Inca Digital thrives on diverse perspectives, specifically across race, gender, neurodivergence, and veteran status, to solve complex data challenges. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer; all qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to protected status, including disability or national origin.
