Our Community Support Workers play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to build skills, pursue their goals, strengthen relationships, and participate in meaningful community activities.
Reporting to the Service Supervisor, we have one (1) Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker (Float) - Community Inclusion position available. The successful incumbent will provide individualized 1:1 community-based support, working across multiple sites and service locations as required. The role focuses on promoting independence, skill development, and meaningful community participation through person-centred and strength-based approaches.
This role requires a high level of personal care, including support with daily living and meal planning in accordance with diabetic guidelines. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow support plans, complete data collection, and work effectively in high-stress situations. Experience applying positive behavioural support strategies and working collaboratively with families, external supports, and community partners is essential.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6 hours/day (30 hours/weekly)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized 1:1 community-based support to persons with developmental disabilities
- Promote independence, skill development, and meaningful community participation
- Support access to community-based opportunities
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing review of personalized plans
- Promote health and safety through individualized supports
- Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living
- Support health-related meal planning in accordance with diabetic guidelines
- Apply positive behavioural support strategies and evidence-based behavioural management principles
- Support safety, emotional regulation, and positive outcomes in high-stress environments
- Follow detailed guidelines and complete required documentation and data collection
- Work collaboratively with individuals, families, external supports, and community partners
- Work across multiple sites and service locations based on operational needs and service coverage requirements
- Complete required documentation and follow organizational policies
Qualifications
- Diploma in Community Social Services or a related field. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Minimum one year of direct support experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with complex medical or behavioural needs.
- Strong understanding of community inclusion, person‑centered practices, and positive behaviour support strategies (training in behavioural intervention is an asset).
- Experience supporting individuals in community‑based settings is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to remain professional, compassionate, and calm in high‑stress situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to follow prescribed lifting, transferring, and behaviour support techniques.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts based on individual needs.
Additional Position Information
- This role is designated for Female applicants only, in accordance with bona fide occupational requirements, due to the provision of 1:1 personal care support for a male supported individual with complex needs.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as operational needs arise.
Requirements
- This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle.
- Valid Intermediate First Aid, Food Safe, MANDT (Technical) and TB Health Certificate.
