WHAT YOU’LL DO
The INDYCAR Engineering internship exposes participants to a wide range of engineering elements associated with open wheel racing, inclusive of aerodynamics, engine management, data analysis and electronics. The individual in this role will be guided by leaders in each of the key technical areas, who will provide not only opportunities for real-world experience, but career guidance as well. The engineering internship is designed so that individuals participate in numerous projects, which are determined by priority of the organization and the individual’s interest.
In this role, you’ll be an important part of delivering top-tier experiences to fans, partners, and teams across the Motorsports world. You’ll take ownership of key responsibilities, collaborate across departments, and bring energy and innovation to a fast-paced environment.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support INDYCAR engineering projects with direction from engineering leadership.
- Assist engine technicians with collecting engine control unit (ECU) data at race events.
- Write programs to help increase efficiency of reviewing data.
- Support the engineering safety group by downloading crash data and taking accident photos during events.
- Cross department involvement with the INDYCAR Timing and Innovation group as it pertains to key data.
- Short-term projects may be identified which will help further the individual’s exposure to the motorsports industry and accomplish key duties for the engineering department.

Required Experience & Skills:
- Formula SAE or similar experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of engine operations and vehicle electronics is preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially the ability to synthesize large amounts of data involving multiple variables into comprehensive, applicable insights.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing timelines and goals.
- Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust.
- Deliver new and creative solutions to sophisticated problems.
- Cultural competence and the ability to thrive in a diverse environment.

Education:
- Currently a student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field of study.
Leadership:
- This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL
- Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Must be willing to travel to race events.
- Extended hours required during race weekends and key event periods (especially May)
- Our teams work together to create flexibility that supports life in and out of work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Extended periods of standing or walking (as needed).
- Comfort working indoors/outdoors and around event noise.
- Must have the stamina to work long hours and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends or evenings.
- Occasional work outdoors requires physical strength and stamina to endure extreme heat, cold, rain and other conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Fast-paced, collaborative office and event settings.
- Work is mainly performed in an indoor environment and near others.
- The employee is faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis.
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud, due to professional racing events.
