Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is expanding specialty medicine in Dunwoody, Georgia, and we're looking for Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants who want to build their careers in advanced dermatology.

This is an opportunity to work alongside specialty clinicians while caring for patients with complex dermatologic, allergic, and chronic skin and ear conditions. You'll have the opportunity to develop advanced technical skills, deepen your understanding of specialty medicine, and become an important part of a team focused on improving long-term patient outcomes.
We are seeking experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), and Veterinary Assistants with an interest in Veterinary Dermatology, Specialty Medicine, Patient Care, Diagnostics, and Client Education.
As a Veterinary Dermatology Technician, you'll support specialty consultations, diagnostics, treatment, and ongoing management of dermatology patients.
Dermatology Patient Care
- Assist with dermatology consultations and specialty examinations
- Provide nursing support for chronic and complex dermatology cases
- Care for patients with:
- Allergies and allergic skin disease
- Chronic dermatitis
- Otitis and ear disease
- Bacterial and fungal skin infections
- Autoimmune and immune-mediated skin disorders
- Monitor patient comfort, treatment response, and overall progress
Dermatology Diagnostics
- Collect, prepare, and handle diagnostic samples
- Assist with:
- Skin scrapings
- Skin and ear cytology
- Fungal culture collection
- Diagnostic sample preparation
- Allergy testing and specialty diagnostics
- Maintain accurate medical records and diagnostic documentation
Treatment and Procedural Support
- Administer medications and treatments as directed
- Support topical therapy and allergy treatment protocols
- Assist with medicated baths and dermatologic procedures
- Support sedation and anesthesia when required
- Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for specialty procedures
Client Education and Case Management
Dermatology is often long-term medicine. You'll help clients understand what is happening with their pets and how to successfully manage treatment at home.
- Educate clients about medications and treatment protocols
- Reinforce home-care and preventative recommendations
- Support chronic allergy and dermatology management
- Help clients understand follow-up recommendations
- Build trusting relationships with clients throughout the treatment process
We're looking for someone who brings a strong veterinary foundation and genuine interest in specialty medicine.
Required or preferred experience includes:
- 1+ year of veterinary hospital experience
- Experience in General Practice, Urgent Care, Emergency, or Specialty Veterinary Medicine
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Venipuncture and sample collection
- Familiarity with laboratory diagnostics
- Patient monitoring and nursing care
- Accurate medical record documentation
- Strong client communication and education skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a specialty environment

Preferred Qualifications
- LVT credentials or the ability to sit for the VTNE
- Previous Veterinary Dermatology experience
- Specialty or referral hospital experience
- Strong cytology and laboratory skills
- Experience with chronic case management
- Experience with allergy testing or dermatologic diagnostics
- Interest in advanced veterinary nursing or specialty certification
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday
- Lift, carry, and assist with restraining patients weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance available when appropriate
- Safely handle animals of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical conditions
- Perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity, including restraint, sample collection, documentation, and equipment operation
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital environment
- Communicate effectively with clients, veterinarians, specialists, and hospital team members
The role may involve exposure to animal dander, fur, saliva, cleaning agents, disinfectants, veterinary chemicals, medical odors, diagnostic equipment, and anesthesia monitoring equipment.
Veterinary Assistants with strong clinical experience and a demonstrated interest in specialty medicine are encouraged to apply.
