Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Experience:
- Two years of full-time experience in general maintenance, renovations, construction, or facilities maintenance.
- Specialized training in maintenance, construction, or facilities maintenance may be substituted for experience.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Possession of a clean valid NYS, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Connecticut Driver's License.
- Must meet requirements to maintain a good driving record.
Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

About the Role
Under the supervision of the Director of Shelter Facilities or designee, Maintenance Workers perform maintenance, installation, and related activities, including routine carpentry, painting, plastering, minor electrical work, minor plumbing, and lock installation/repair. They assist with grounds maintenance, moving and transporting personnel, equipment, mail, and supplies, and maintain documentation related to these activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform routine installation, maintenance, replacement, and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Repair and replace steam valves, leaking pipes, thermostats, and related fixtures.
- Operate and maintain heating and hot water equipment.
- Perform carpentry activities including repairing or replacing doors, windows, stairs, railings, floors, gates, roofs, ceilings, locks, and door hardware.
- Install blinds, shelves, bookcases, modular furniture, cabinets, countertops, and related fixtures.
- Repair, rebuild, and assist in installing roofs.
- Assist with renovation and remodeling projects, including drywall repair, painting, staining, and surface preparation.
- Perform minor electrical repairs including lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, motors, ranges, and wiring.
- Perform grounds maintenance including lawn care, bush trimming, and snow removal.
- Assist with moving, transporting, and discarding furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Operate machine tools including power drills, power saws, lawnmowers, and snow blowers.
- Maintain agency vehicles, including tire changes, fluid checks, and cleaning.
- Follow work request and departmental tracking systems and submit documentation timely.
- Complete required maintenance checklists.
- Perform masonry repairs and installation activities such as tile and carpet replacement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
