MYP / DP English Teacher for Academic Year 2027-2028
Job Description/Profile
Scope: High School
Joining: August 2027
Reporting to: Head of High School
In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. The MYP / DP English Teacher should be an outstanding learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of creating an environment of mutual support and respect by identifying and addressing factors that inhibit learning.
The successful candidate should be able to provide support to students, staff and parents to facilitate the development of an internationally minded community which shares a common interest in preserving the environment, caring for each other and engaging enthusiastically in learning.
1. Qualifications and Experience
1.1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, English Literature or a related field, or equivalent.
1.2. Qualified teacher status appropriate to the teaching duties to be undertaken.
1.3. Experience teaching English within the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP).
2. Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate should have:
2.1. Alignment with the ISL values of Belonging, Integrity, Grit and Kindness.
2.2. Excellent communication skills with a high level of proficiency in English.
2.3. A high-level understanding of current research on how students learn and the ability to motivate high school students.
2.4. The ability to inspire students of varying backgrounds and abilities through differentiated instruction and engaging learning opportunities.
2.5. The capability to support student needs in both learning and pastoral matters.
2.6. Awareness of the principles of Understanding by Design (UbD) and Assessment for Learning (AfL).
2.7. A commitment to active participation in the development of the high school and to fostering a positive team spirit.
2.8. Knowledge of current developments, approaches and research in the teaching and learning of English.
2.9. Effective time-management and organisational skills to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
3. Responsibilities
3.1. Implement DP and MYP policies and strategic plans.
3.2. Collaborate with the Head of High School and the MYP and DP Coordinators to ensure effective curriculum delivery, including appropriate resource selection and management.
3.3. Participate in the design, development, implementation and review of the DP and MYP English curriculum.
3.4. Contribute to the design, development, implementation and review of assessment and reporting systems.
3.5. Promote the health, safety and wellbeing of students within high school classes.
3.6. Engage in professional development and contribute to regular staff training and meetings.
3.7. Foster a strong sense of team spirit within the high school and build positive professional relationships with colleagues across the school.
3.8. Contribute to the school’s community service and global citizenship goals.
3.9. Participate in the school’s extra-curricular activities programme.
3.10. Promote positive relationships between the high school and the wider community through cooperative initiatives, publications, competitions and other activities.
3.11. Contribute positively to the professional standing and development of the teaching body.
3.12. Participate in the ongoing development of the DP and MYP and support actions arising from programme evaluation and authorization requirements.
3.13. Use technology effectively to support high school learning, including through Virtual Learning Environments and platforms such as ManageBac and Microsoft Teams.
3.14. Support the school in meeting its programme obligations for NEASC and the IB.
3.15. Contribute to the continued development and implementation of Assessment for Learning (AfL) and Understanding by Design (UbD) within the high school.
4. Safeguarding and Child Protection

All new staff/applicants must undergo child protection screening, including employment references, prohibition from teaching checks, and a criminal records check (DBS or an equivalent certificate from the applicant’s country of residence).
