ABOUT YOU

The position requires a practical, quality-focused individual who is comfortable working safely with chemicals and takes pride in producing reliable results and maintaining accurate records.

You may be a recent science or chemistry graduate, or you may have gained relevant experience in a laboratory, scientific or industrial setting. Previous experience of ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRF or IC would be useful, but it is not essential because full training will be provided.

You'll join a small, close-knit and supportive team where everyone contributes. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and readiness to complete both technical and routine laboratory duties are important.

Required skills and experience:

• A degree in Chemistry or another relevant scientific discipline, or suitable experience gained within a scientific or industrial setting
• Basic chemistry knowledge and an understanding of safe chemical handling
• Good practical laboratory skills, or a clear interest in developing these within an analytical laboratory
• Strong numeracy skills, including the ability to calculate and tabulate results accurately
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to build effective relationships with colleagues and, once trained, clients
• A collaborative, reliable and hands-on approach, with a willingness to support the team and complete routine laboratory duties
• Ability to organise your workload, meet agreed deadlines and maintain good communication with relevant stakeholders
• Experience of ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRF, IC, ISO 17025 or the chemical and polymer industry would be advantageous

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

As an Inorganic Analysis Analyst, you'll prepare and analyse chemical samples using a variety of analytical techniques, generate reliable data and report your results accurately.

You'll begin with a bespoke programme of internal, on-site training based on your existing knowledge and experience. Even if you have used similar equipment elsewhere, you'll be trained in the specialist methods and procedures used at Wilton.

As your knowledge develops, you'll learn to recognise unusual results or analytical artefacts, support laboratory investigations and gain greater exposure to clients' products, processes and technical questions.

There may also be an opportunity, once established in the role, to join the Scientist Development Programme and learn additional techniques within or across teams. Participation and any associated pay progression are subject to performance, business need, an approved business case and available funding.

Key activities:

• Prepare and analyse chemical samples using a range of inorganic analysis techniques
• Train in multiple analytical techniques and develop the ability to generate useful data and recognise artefacts
• Follow approved methods, procedures and instructions, applying basic interpretation skills to analytical results
• Calculate, tabulate, interpret and accurately report laboratory results
• Support laboratory investigations, troubleshoot analytical issues and contribute to effective problem-solving
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and comply with relevant quality, safety and COSHH requirements
• Plan and manage your workload, meeting agreed deadlines and keeping stakeholders informed
• Work to priorities agreed with the Project Manager and Delivery Manager
• Develop an understanding of clients' products, processes and technical requirements and, once trained, communicate with clients effectively
• Support colleagues, contribute positively to the team and complete shared routine duties, including cleaning laboratory equipment
• Take an active interest in personal development and opportunities to broaden your scientific skills
