ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)
Established in 1984 to manage the settlement outlined in the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) represents the collective interests of Inuvialuit. IRC’s goal is to continually improve the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and by all other available means. Through strong partnerships and community‑driven programs, the organization supports economic growth, cultural preservation and opportunities for current and future generations.
Inuvialuit beneficiaries directly control IRC and its subsidiaries through a democratic process of elected directors from each of the six community corporations with chairs at the IRC Board, a process originally outlined in the IFA.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuniarnikkun Maligaksat, which was named by elders to represent all dialects and means “Inuvialuit Family Way of Living Law,” and is designed to support a gradual transition over several years to full Inuvialuit control of the care of Inuvialuit children and youth. Overtime, it will see the creation of future facilities, community staffing and a new dedicated organization to be called Maligaksat, which will advocate for Inuvialuit children and youth wherever they live and serve to fill the gaps in existing services.
JOB SUMMARY
The Maligaksat - Services Coordinator is responsible for advocating on behalf of Inuvialuit children, both in the ISR and across Canada, particularly those involved in child welfare systems, to ensure that their basic needs are met, their development is supported, and they can maintain as strong a connection as possible with their culture, community, and family. Services Coordinator also supports beneficiaries and families in achieving their personal wellness goals.
The successful candidate will work with IRC’s Health and Wellness and legal staff to ensure Inuvialuit children are protected and supported. The Service Coordinator is responsible for managing all cases of children in care, working with the respective governments to ensure effective support for Inuvialuit children, youth, and families. The Service Coordinator will also assist with implementation of Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuiarnikkun Maligaksat, supported by the Federal Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Children, Youth, and Families (Bill C-92).
