Electronics Engineer

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

Electronic Design & Architecture

• Take end-to-end technical ownership of electronic hardware developments, from requirements definition and architecture through detailed design, manufacturing, verification and qualification.
• Lead and document electronics architecture trade-offs, design analyses and key technical decisions, balancing performance, reliability, cost, schedule and space-environment constraints.
• Design, simulate and review complex digital, mixed-signal and power electronics, including high-speed interfaces and associated signal and power integrity considerations.
• Perform and document EEE component selection and derating, considering electrical performance, reliability, radiation environment, availability, obsolescence and applicable project requirements.
• Own schematic design and PCB development activities, including component selection, stack-up definition, grounding, impedance control, EMC/EMI considerations and design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test.
• Apply robust engineering practices to ensure designs meet allocated requirements and applicable reliability, quality and environmental constraints.
• Collaborate closely with Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, Software/Firmware and other engineering disciplines to ensure robust system-level integration.

Hardware Integration, Testing & Debugging

• Provide technical oversight of PCB fabrication and assembly, working closely with manufacturers and suppliers and resolving technical issues throughout production.
• Lead hardware bring-up, debugging and functional verification using appropriate laboratory instrumentation and test equipment.
• Perform board-level debugging and rework when required, maintaining a strong hands-on approach throughout hardware development and integration.
• Define verification approaches and develop test procedures, ensuring objective evidence and traceability against allocated requirements.
• Plan, support and follow up environmental test campaigns, including preparation, execution, anomaly investigation and closure of resulting actions.
• Support hardware/software and system-level integration activities, troubleshooting complex issues across subsystem boundaries.
• Develop scripts, test tools and automation where appropriate to improve hardware characterization, debugging, verification and test efficiency.
• Document test configurations, results, anomalies and conclusions to ensure technical traceability and support design qualification.

Technical Ownership & Leadership

• Act as technical owner for assigned work packages and represent and defend the design during internal and external technical reviews.
• Independently plan and execute complex technical work, coordinating dependencies and driving activities to completion.
• Proactively identify technical risks, issues and dependencies; define mitigation plans and drive them to closure.
• Review designs, analyses and technical documentation produced by other engineers, providing constructive technical challenge and ensuring appropriate engineering rigor.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor less-experienced engineers, supporting knowledge transfer and development of engineering capabilities within the team.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, design methodologies, tools, standards and lessons learned within the Electronics team.
• Produce and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including specifications, design descriptions, analyses, technical justifications, test procedures and test reports.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Masters or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• +7 Years significant professional experience in electronic hardware design and development, with demonstrated ownership of complex hardware developments across multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle.
• Strong experience in digital, mixed-signal and/or power electronics design, including schematic capture, circuit analysis and simulation.
• Strong experience in multi-layer PCB design, including high-speed design, controlled impedance, grounding, stack-up definition, length matching and EMC/EMI design practices.
• Solid understanding of signal integrity and power integrity principles and their practical application to electronic hardware design.
• Strong understanding of EEE component selection and electrical derating, including consideration of reliability, availability and obsolescence.
• Proven hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, board-level debugging, rework and functional testing using standard electronics laboratory equipment.
• Experience defining and executing hardware verification activities, including test procedures, requirements traceability and technical documentation.
• Ability to independently lead complex technical work, perform engineering trade-offs, identify technical risks and drive issues to resolution.
• Experience presenting and defending hardware designs during technical reviews and working effectively across Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, Software/Firmware and other engineering disciplines.
• Good scripting and programming skills for engineering, test and automation purposes; Python and C/C++ are preferred.
• Strong technical communication and documentation skills, combined with demonstrated initiative, technical leadership and the ability to mentor less-experienced engineers.

NICE TO HAVE

• Direct experience designing electronics for planetary rovers or lunar surface systems.
• Experience designing electronics for space or other harsh environments.
• Knowledge of radiation effects and mitigation techniques for electronic hardware.
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC, signal integrity, grounding and shielding.
• Experience with EEE component selection, derating and qualification.
• Familiarity with ECSS and/or IPC standards applicable to electronic hardware.
• Experience supporting environmental testing, including thermal-vacuum and vibration.
• Experience with OrCAD or equivalent schematic/PCB design tools.
• Experience with FPGA-based hardware and Xilinx devices.
• Experience with automated hardware characterization and testing using Python.
