You’ll be more than an accountant. This role combines hands-on accounting with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic support. You’ll work with financial data to understand what is happening across the organization and help translate that information into meaningful insights and recommendations.

You’ll work at the intersection of finance and operations. You’ll partner with teams across Jack.org—including Programs, Development, and Operations—to understand the financial impact of initiatives, monitor spending, support grant requirements, and ensure financial information is accurate and meaningful.

You’ll help connect our systems and data. With NetSuite and Salesforce playing important roles in our financial and fundraising operations, you’ll help ensure that financial and donor data is complete, accurate, and properly reconciled across systems.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of Jack.org’s financial records while providing timely financial analysis and insights to stakeholders across the organization.

This role combines core accounting responsibilities with financial planning and analysis, including month-end reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, grant accounting, financial reporting, and audit support. The Senior Accountant will work closely with teams across the organization to translate financial information into actionable insights and support sound operational and strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting experience, an understanding of nonprofit financial operations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Reporting

• Build and update monthly and quarterly financial performance reports and forecasts and maintain forecast accuracy within acceptable thresholds
• Prepare statement of operations analyses across a variety of dimensions, such as financial period, program, operational department, and budget-to-actuals
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare variance analyses against prior periods and prepare management reports within reasonable time after monthly closing
• Maintain live dashboards on revenue by source and highlight deviations where necessary
• Reconcile and ensure donor data is complete and consistent between the financial system and CRM
• Meet regularly with cross-functional teams to translate financial impacts of various program initiatives
• Ensure completeness and timeliness of financial records and reports; in compliance with relevant regulations and accounting standards
• Ensure appropriate accounting for successful grant awards, and work with Programs and Development teams on understanding expenditure priorities based on grant constraints
• Review bank and account reconciliations prepared by Finance Coordinator
• Monitor and review account payables, account receivables, credit card accounts, banking accounts, and donation accounts to ensure consistency with financial & CRM records
• Prepare month-end journal entries to close out general ledger monthly 
• Provide schedules and documentation for internal and external audit, acting as the main point of contact for external auditors and the finance team
  

Planning & Analysis:

• Coordinate annual budget process and ensure the timelines and outcomes are adhered as per approved committee and board calendar
• Assist in the preparation of  budgets & financial reports for grant applications and reporting
• Support cash flow management and forecasting
• Support in monitoring financial KPIs within strategic plan to assess organizational performance
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making, as required
  

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support with HST, payroll, & tax compliance reporting
• Supporting in formulating and amending internal controls to fit organizational needs
• Support with Audit, Finance and Risk Committee meeting materials, as required
• Support with training of non finance staff on financial procedures, transaction coding, as well as expectations on timely submissions of financial data and accounting practices
• Assist in the implementation of business practices and maintenance of financial software systems
• Provide back up support to senior management for temporary short-term absences as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience working in Non-Profit sector is an asset
• Knowledge of financial systems such as NetSuite and familiarity with CRMs like Salesforce are crucial
• Knowledge of advanced Excel and BI tools to automate repetitive tasks and create reporting dashboards and automated reports are preferred
• Being able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and undertakes a collaborative approach in execution of responsibilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy under pressure
• Attention to detail, organization, and efficiency in data driven approach to make decisions
• At least 3-5 years of finance experience, including hands-on exposure to accounting operations
• Understanding of accounting standards, either through education or experience
• Understanding of Canadian HST and charity regulations is a strong asset
• Be creative and flexible to find solutions, while upholding accounting standards
• Have high degree of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism and commitment to due diligence with information
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
• Professional designation (CPA) or working towards it preferred

This position is based in Toronto and typically follows a hybrid work model, however, candidates based elsewhere in Canada may also be considered for a fully remote arrangement. This role is a full time, regular position.
