About the role

As an engineer at Jan De Nul in Argentina, you help guide our dredging projects in the country through their execution phase. You might be keeping the navigation channels open that carry Argentina's exports to sea, deepening and maintaining a river or coastal port, or working on a land reclamation or coastal protection scheme. To keep our activities in Argentina running, we have a strong need for talented engineers to follow up our projects here as technical superintendent.

We are looking for a Technical Superintendent – Vessel Maintenance to join our Technical Division and contribute to the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our dredging vessels and associated equipment.

As a Technical Superintendent, you will play a key role in coordinating maintenance and repair activities, working closely with vessel crews, project teams, technical departments, suppliers and shipyards.

What you’ll do

As Technical Superintendent, you will be responsible for the technical condition and maintenance of assigned vessels and equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Coordinating maintenance and repair activities for assigned vessels and associated equipment.
• Reviewing technical reports, repair lists and resource requirements.
• Preparing and following up on repair, reconstruction and renewal projects.
• Monitoring spare-parts requirements and stock management.
• Supporting vessel mobilization and demobilization activities.
• Following up on technical personnel working on board vessels and at project sites.
• Preparing and monitoring spare-parts lists for dry-docking and conversion projects.
• Coordinating technical specifications and maintenance planning.
• Working with Procurement to ensure the timely availability of required technical materials and spare parts.

Of course, you will not be doing this on your own: you can rely on the support of your project manager and colleagues in different disciplines within the project team. You will grow and learn every day, and we will help you.

Your base in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is your work base, and our projects might take you across Argentina. You will work in a rotation regime that is agreed per project: intense periods on site or on board, with long days and six-day weeks, followed by a block of time off at home. This rotation regime will allow to maintain a work life balance.

What do you need to have?

You need to have a strong technical background and enjoy combining engineering expertise with coordination, planning and problem-solving.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering,
• Fluent Spanish and a solid working knowledge of English, our language with the fleet and with head office.
• You live in Buenos Aires, Argentina and are entitled to work here.
• An interest in vessel maintenance, technical systems and maritime operations.
• The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with different teams.
• The flexibility to be on projects anywhere in the country, coupled with an independent spirit.

Knowledge of vessel systems, maintenance and repair techniques, classification society and flag-state regulations, as well as technical and logistics processes, is relevant to the role.
