    Class Definition

    Duties/Job Responsibilities:

    The Assistant Bar Administrator is an administrative position within the Rhode Island Supreme Court Clerk’s Office.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, processing requests for temporary admission to the bar, handling law student certifications, managing court appointed attorney panels, and managing the Master Roll of Attorneys, including annual attorney registration, reinstatements, and resignations.

    The Assistant Bar Administrator also directly assists the Supreme Court Clerk and Bar Administrator in overseeing bar admissions, including reviewing bar applications, communicating with applicants, administering the biannual Uniform Bar Examination, processing transfer admissions, and coordinating swearings-in.

    The Assistant Bar Administrator works with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, Office of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education, and other agencies on matters related to attorney licensing.  The role also provides administrative support to the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, including processing complaints and managing files.

    Required Experience:

    Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree from an accredited college required. Experience in the legal field, bar admissions, or with a licensing authority preferred. Candidates must have the ability to independently manage a heavy workload, provide strong administrative support, take initiative, exercise independent judgment, identify potential issues, and plan a course of action.  Candidates must also have excellent analytical and organizational abilities, oral and written communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail.  Candidates must have the ability to work with new technology and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are a must.
