    Job description

    The Registered Dietitian will help promote and coordinate healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications, and public education. Communicate and collaborate with patients and KMC staff to ensure the diet needs of patients have met the guidelines of the Critical Access Hospital and Conditions of Participation.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Assess the nutritional status and provide individualized nutrition care plans and education from the analysis of medical records and/or patient face-to-face interviews for hospitalized patients utilizing specialized knowledge and skills. 
    • Provide sound advice to patients on health eating habits and evaluate treatments of disease through nutrition.  
    • Document findings, actions and summary assessments, follow up and diet instructions and comprehension in KMC electronic medical record system.  
    • Educate and council patients of all ages and caregivers on modification of diet required for continued recovery.  
    • Review and modifies the patient room service meal sections as needed; communicate with Dietary  
    • Department and providers, document for follow up visits, snacks and supplement needs.  
    • Promote and coordinate healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications, and public education.  
    • Provide information to the medical team, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, OT's, ST's and pharmacists for the care of patients in the inpatient and outpatient at KMC.  
    • Assist KMC staff and providers with discharge planning processes as it relates to nutritional care plans. 

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES

    • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Chief of Nursing. 

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES/SKILLS

    Required

    • Registered Dietitian in the state of Hawaii required.

    • One year's experience in dietetic work in a hospital setting required.

    • Two (2) years' experience in dietetic work preferred. 

    • Thorough knowledge of the Standard of Practice outlined by the American Dietetic Association. 

    • Knowledge and skills to assess and recommend nutritional needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services. 

    Preferred

    • Certified diabetes educator.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    • Walking and standing are required occasionally. 

    • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to list, carry, push or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
