    Job description

    The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with communication and swallowing disorders to improve functional outcomes. The SLP develops and implements individualized care plans and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support patient progress. This role ensures timely documentation and adherence to clinical standards.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provide direct patient care, including evaluation, treatment, and reassessment of functional needs.

    • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and clinical findings.

    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.

    • Direct and supervise support staff as appropriate.

    • Document evaluations, treatments, and patient progress in the electronic medical record within required timelines.

    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, safety standards, and infection control protocols.

    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

    • Promote speech-language pathology services within the hospital and community. 

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES

    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES/SKILLS

    Required

    • Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathology program.

    • Current active license from the State Board of Speech Language Pathology.

    • Knowledge of speech-language pathology practices across relevant patient populations.

    • Strong documentation and organizational skills with ability to complete records same day.

    • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency or high-pressure situations.

    • Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and clinical environments.

    Preferred

    • Experience in a post-acute or outpatient setting.

    • Proficiency with office software and electronic medical record systems.

    • Experience working with rural, underserved populations.  

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

    • Ability to move throughout and access all areas of the facility.

    • Work may involve exposure to clinical environments requiring adherence to safety and infection control standards.
