SUMMARY

Keilhauer relies on the expertise of Gluers to serve our customers and meet the demands of a busy production schedule. As a Gluer, you are expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of our products and skillfully glue materials such as frames, wood and foam together. Responsibilities include setting up and operating a glue booth in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires efficient and accurate attention to product quality, following safety protocols and workplace policies. Extensive on-the-job training is required to become proficient in all product models.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reads and follows daily production schedules, work instructions and diagrams to prepare and accurately glue frames, wood, foam and covers according to specified procedures.
• Sets up, operates and maintains the glue spray booth and glue guns safely and efficiently, applying the appropriate amount of water-based glue for each product.
• Inspects completed work for defects and ensures workmanship meets work order specifications and Keilhauer quality standards.
• Manages time and prioritizes tasks to meet daily production requirements while contributing as a reliable team member and assisting new or temporary employees.
• Follows all company and OHSA safety requirements, uses required personal protective equipment, maintains a clean and orderly work area, and promptly reports equipment or safety concerns to the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is an asset.
• Completion of high school or training/education from a vocational/trade school is an asset.
• General knowledge of hand tools and how to use them safely and effectively.
• Must be able to perform physical activities and handle products of various geometry and weight.
• Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
• Rework skills and mechanical aptitude are a must.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS

Communication: Must be able to read and write in English; must be able to speak English or communicate in American Sign Language (ASL); must work well with others and communicate effectively.

Mobility: Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time on a cement floor; frequently required to move around a large manufacturing facility; may be required to perform work function at either Keilhauer location; frequent reaching, bending, squatting and stooping required.

Manual Dexterity & Coordination: Must have the strength, dexterity and coordination to frequently lift products to the workstation (up to 45 kg with assistance); use hands, wrists and fingers to grip, pull and manipulate various production pieces; grip and use hand and air tools; must be able to operate the glue booth.

Vision: Must have good visual acuity to inspect and evaluate quality of products, select correct components, and read the daily schedule; specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision and the ability to focus.

Cognitive Ability: Must have the ability to read and interpret work guidelines, safety instructions and operating manuals; must possess general knowledge of hand and air tools; must have the ability to learn new skills; must use common sense and be able to carry out written and/or oral instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee spends 100% of their time in the gluing area, where they are frequently exposed to airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

• May be required to work at either Keilhauer location or help with other functional areas as the need arises.
• Must be capable of multi-tasking and able to work with minimal supervision.
• You must be able to wear personal protective equipment, as required (ex. ear plugs, safety shoes).
• Must maintain a sense of urgency under tight deadlines.
• Must be willing to participate in training relevant to the position or industry.
• May occasionally be required to work overtime to meet business needs.
• Follows all company and OHSA Safety regulations; works in a safe manner, reinforces housekeeping and Keilhauer’s core values.
