Abatement Technician

Position Overview

The Abatement Technician is responsible for the safe removal, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials, including asbestos, in compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations. This role supports environmental remediation projects by preparing containment areas, executing abatement procedures, and ensuring work sites are properly cleaned and decontaminated. 

Key Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Remove asbestos containing materials from structures in accordance with hazardous material handling guidelines.

• Prepare work areas by constructing containment systems, including walkways between mobile units or portable showers and the work zone, using hand tools and materials such as lumber, plastic sheeting, and duct tape.

• Set up and monitor portable air evacuation and filtration systems within the work area.

• Treat area with chemical solutions to asbestos containing surfaces to soften materials for removal.

• Cut, scrape, and remove hazardous materials using appropriate personal protective equipment, tools and techniques.

• Package asbestos and other hazardous materials into approved disposal bags and seal properly for transport and disposal.

• Clean and decontaminate work sites using vacuums, brooms, and other cleaning equipment to ensure removal of all hazardous debris.

• Maintain strict adherence to safety procedures, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Follow project schedules and productivity expectations to meet deadlines.

• Perform other duties as assigned, which may change based on project needs.

Skills Required:

? Completion of AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) contractor/worker training. 

? Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. 

? Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines. 

? Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience & Systems Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in construction or related field.

• Lead certification preferred. 

• Preferred prior experience in environmental remediation or abatement work.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Ability to safely use hand and power tools. 

• Frequent lifting in excess of 50 pounds. 

• Occasional lifting from 41 pounds and heavier, assisted up to 50% of the time. 

• Access and mobility in tight spaces. 

• Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling 

• Ability to use mobile devices for collection of data and time. 

• Occasionally climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in extreme hot, cold and humid conditions. 

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
