The Shop Forman optimizes production by directing, coordinating, and supervising the daily activities of technicians and shop workflow. Ensures technicians are staying on task, procedures are followed and paperwork is done correctly.
- Main shop contact for service advisors.
- Maintain good customer relations by providing detailed communications to service advisor and speaking with customers as needed and is appropriate.
- Optimal dispatch of jobs to technicians based on expertise, ability and capacity.
- Ensure proper warranty procedures are followed.
- Assist in completing necessary and accurate documentation on repair orders.
- Comply with federal and state vehicle regulations and standards through ongoing education and training
- Enforce dealership policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to dealership information
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
- 5 years of related experience in a heavy-duty shop / service operation
- Experience managing technicians
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Knowledge of mechanical repair (medium- and heavy-duty truck systems preferred)
- Understanding of engine repairs, tune-ups, diagnosing and testing
- Knowledge of electrical systems electrical/electronic diagnosing and testing
- Knowledge of cab, suspension, air brake, hydraulic brake, steering gear & springs, Clutch, transmission and differential and all other components / systems
- Active desire to develop professional skills and have an active role in career growth
- Must be able to lift 75lbs and carry weight up to a distance of 5 feet.
