    Lancaster Veterinary Specialties – (LVS) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist (DACVIM) to join our growing specialty team.

    About the Opportunity

    We’re seeking a Boarded Internal Medicine Specialist to join our multi-specialty team. This Monday–Friday position (40 hours/week) offers:

    • Zero weekend or on-call shifts

    • A steady and diverse caseload of internal medicine referrals

    Position Summary:

    The primary purpose and function of the Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist is to provide exceptional, advanced medical care to patients with complex and challenging conditions while delivering an outstanding experience to clients and referring veterinary partners. The Internal Medicine Specialist serves as a trusted resource for patients, pet owners, referring veterinarians, and the hospital team through advanced diagnostics, thoughtful case management, and collaborative care.

    This role works closely with hospital leadership, emergency clinicians, fellow specialists, referring veterinarians, and support staff to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care and contribute to a positive, high-performing culture that aligns with VetEvolve’s guiding principles of Care First, Better Together, Grow Forward, and Own It.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide high-quality specialty care to patients referred for complex internal medicine conditions, including gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, endocrine, renal, urinary, respiratory, hematologic, immune-mediated, infectious, and multisystem diseases.

    • Perform comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, develop and interpret advanced diagnostic plans, establish diagnoses, and create individualized treatment and long-term management plans for patients.

    • Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of internal medicine and the clinician’s training and expertise.

    • Practice veterinary medicine in accordance with applicable state Veterinary Practice Acts, federal and state controlled substance laws, professional standards, and hospital policies. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records.

    • Effectively communicate diagnostic findings, treatment recommendations, prognoses, and ongoing care plans to clients in a compassionate and understandable manner.

    • Collaborate closely with emergency clinicians, other specialists, primary care veterinarians, and support staff to provide coordinated care for hospitalized and referred patients.

    • Maintain strong communication with referring veterinarians, including timely updates, consultation regarding complex cases, and clear recommendations for follow-up care.

    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with referring veterinary practices and serve as a trusted specialty resource within the veterinary community.

    • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to technicians, assistants, interns, and other members of the veterinary team as appropriate.

    • Promote patient, client, and team safety through adherence to hospital protocols, appropriate patient handling, infection-control standards, and established clinical procedures.

    • Participate in department and hospital meetings, continuing education, and collaborative initiatives that support the continued development of the Internal Medicine service and hospital.

    • Perform other duties consistent with the role of a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.

    • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM – Small Animal Internal Medicine), or successful completion of an ACVIM-approved Small Animal Internal Medicine residency with board eligibility.

    • Active veterinary license, or eligibility for veterinary licensure, in the state of Pennsylvania.

    • Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of complex internal medicine cases.

    • Strong diagnostic reasoning and proficiency in advanced procedures within the scope of Small Animal Internal Medicine.

    • Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex medical information and treatment options.

    • Strong collaboration and consultation skills when working with referring veterinarians, emergency clinicians, specialists, and hospital team members.

    • Commitment to professional ethics, continuing education, patient safety, and the delivery of exceptional specialty veterinary care.

    • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary for veterinary patient care, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and assisting with the handling of patients as appropriate.

    • Professional appearance and conduct consistent with hospital standards.
