Executive Summary
The Business Integration Engineer serves as a strategic connector between Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales, ensuring that new product development, customer-specific opportunities, and technology initiatives are translated into executable business plans. This individual provides early visibility into emerging opportunities and serves as the organization's primary mechanism for aligning technical innovation with supply chain capabilities and operational readiness.
Operating in an engineered-to-order (ETO) environment, this role proactively identifies sourcing, cost, supplier capacity, technology, and long lead-time risks while enabling the business to respond quickly to customer opportunities. The Senior Business Integration Engineer ensures that strategic decisions are informed by a balanced understanding of engineering requirements, supply chain realities, operational capabilities, and commercial objectives.
This role is ideal for a high-performing engineer seeking to expand beyond traditional technical responsibilities into business operations, strategic planning, and organizational leadership. Position Objectives
The Senior Business Integration Engineer will:
- Create early visibility for Supply Chain and Operations regarding future products, projects, and customer opportunities.
- Improve the organization's ability to manage long lead-time materials and supplier constraints.
- Support Sales by providing realistic cost, lead-time, and execution assessments.
- Ensure new opportunities are executable before customer commitments are made.
- Reduce supply chain-related project delays through proactive planning and risk management.
- Drive stronger integration between Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Develop business acumen and leadership capabilities through exposure to enterprise-level decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Business Integration
- Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering, Supply Chain,Operations, and Sales.
- Translate engineering activities, customer requirements, and product roadmaps into actionable business and supply chain plans.
- Facilitate cross-functional decision making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure technical decisions consider operational, sourcing, cost, and lead-time implications.
Strategic Opportunity Planning
- Provide early warning signals regarding upcoming customer projects, new products, and technology initiatives.
- Create visibility into future demand, sourcing needs, manufacturing requirements, and supplier capacity considerations.
- Support opportunity reviews, project prioritization, and execution planning.
- Partner with Sales to align customer commitments with operational capabilities.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead supply chain readiness efforts for new products and engineered customer solutions.
- Coordinate sourcing, procurement, planning, and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Ensure cross-functional alignment from concept through product launch.
- Support design reviews with supply chain, cost, manufacturability, and supplier capability assessments.
Supply Chain Risk Management
- Identify long lead-time materials, capacity constraints, supplier risks, and technology challenges.
- Develop mitigation strategies through advance procurement planning, supplier development, alternate sourcing, and inventory strategies.
- Escalate significant business risks and recommend solutions to leadership.
Cost & Lead-Time Management
- Coordinate preliminary material costing and lead-time assessments during the quotation process.
- Work with sourcing teams to obtain supplier input and budgetary pricing.
- Improve the accuracy of commercial commitments and project planning assumptions.
- Balance customer responsiveness with operational feasibility.
ERP & Operational Readiness
- Ensure projects are accurately established within ERP systems.
- Support item creation, BOM readiness, supplier assignments, planning parameters, and lead-time management.
- Enable procurement and operations teams to act quickly and effectively upon project approval.
- Improve project execution through disciplined data management and process adherence.
Continuous Improvement
- Develop and standardize project visibility and supply chain engagement processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning, communication, sourcing effectiveness, and launch execution.
- Drive initiatives that reduce firefighting, expedite activity, and supply-related disruptions.
