Have you built experience in catering and are ready to take the next step into a supervisory role?

Why not join Lancashire School Meals?

Our Unit Catering Supervisor roles offer a great opportunity to combine a rewarding catering career with a work pattern that supports a healthy work-life balance. Working Monday to Friday during term time, you'll avoid the unsociable hours often associated with the catering industry while making a real difference to local children.

Many of our current supervisors started their careers within Lancashire School Meals and have progressed through the service. We offer excellent training and development opportunities, helping our employees build long and rewarding careers.

As Unit Catering Supervisor, you will lead a friendly kitchen team, overseeing the day-to-day catering service while remaining actively involved in preparing, cooking and serving healthy, balanced meals.

Lancashire County Council's School Catering Service provides more than 60,000 meals every day across over 500 schools, and you'll play an important part in ensuring pupils receive a nutritious meal in a safe and welcoming environment.

    What we offer:

    • Term-time working hours, Monday to Friday, offering a better work-life balance than many catering roles.
    • A supportive team environment where everyone plays their part.
    • An active and rewarding leadership role with clear responsibilities.
    • Training and development opportunities to support your career progression.
    • The opportunity to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of local children.
    • Lancashire County Council also offers a range of benefits, which can be found on our website here.

    What you'll do:

    • Lead and support the day-to-day work of the school kitchen team.
    • Prepare, cook and serve healthy, nutritious school meals.
    • Ensure menus and production plans are followed accurately.
    • Order supplies, monitor stock levels and store deliveries safely.
    • Maintain catering records and support food safety compliance.
    • Help create a positive dining experience for pupils.
    • Ensure the kitchen operates safely, efficiently and to high standard
    • Support the preparation, organisation and transport of nursery meals as required.

We are looking for someone who:

    • Is reliable, organised and ready to take responsibility.
    • Can confidently lead, motivate and support colleagues.
    • Works well as part of a team while also managing their own workload.
    • Can remain calm and work efficiently during busy periods.
    • Can prioritise tasks and use their own initiative when needed.
    • Has good communication and customer service skills.
    • Has previous catering and food preparation experience.
    • Has experience of catering for large numbers.

The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Further information can be found on the 'Our Recruitment Process' tab.

In return Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits, found on our website here.

We reserve the right to close down a vacancy early, before the closing date, if we receive sufficient applications.
