    Description and requirements

Leonard Cheshire is one of the UK’s leading disability charities, supporting disabled people to live, learn and work as independently as they choose. With around 100 services and more than 3,000 colleagues across the UK, our people and culture are fundamental to delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred support.

We are seeking an experienced senior HR, People & Culture or organisational development leader to join our Service Quality Committee as a co-opted member.

This is a strategic governance and advisory role, providing independent insight, constructive challenge and support to Trustees and senior executives as Leonard Cheshire continues its transformation and modernisation journey.

    What you’ll bring

You will have significant senior-level experience in areas such as:

    • Organisational culture and development
    • Leadership and management development
    • People and culture strategy
    • Workforce transformation and planning
    • Learning and development
    • Large-scale organisational change

You will be a strategic thinker with sound judgement and the confidence to provide constructive challenge at Board level. Experience in health, social care, regulated or charitable organisations would be advantageous.

    Your impact

You will help the Service Quality Committee and Board to:

    • Understand how culture, leadership and workforce capability influence service quality.
    • Strengthen oversight of workforce and people-related risks.
    • Support organisational culture and transformation.
    • Consider future workforce capability, leadership and succession.
    • Ensure the voice, outcomes and lived experience of people we support remain central to decision-making.
    • You will also act as a strategic sounding board to the Executive Director of People on culture change, leadership capability, employee engagement, talent, succession, organisational effectiveness and workforce sustainability.
    • Time commitment

The role involves approximately four three-hour Committee meetings per year, preparation and review of papers, with occasional attendance at Trustee development or strategy sessions.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to a leading disability charity, while gaining valuable experience of charity governance and potentially progressing towards a future Trustee appointment.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled people and people with lived experience of social care services. Reasonable adjustments will be supported throughout the process.

A satisfactory disclosure check and references will be required.

If you are a senior HR, People & Culture or organisational development professional who wants to use your expertise to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.
