LJP Waste Solutions is seeking a dependable and skilled Fleet Technician to support the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of company vehicles and equipment. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, completing repairs, and ensuring fleet vehicles remain safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards.

The Fleet Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, supporting operational efficiency, and extending the lifespan of fleet assets. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a fast-paced maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles including trucks, trailers, and service vehicles
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic software, tools, and equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance according to established schedules and company standards
• Complete repairs involving brakes, engines, transmissions, suspensions, tires, HVAC systems, and related components
• Document work performed, parts utilized, inspections, and service recommendations accurately within maintenance systems
• Ensure fleet vehicles remain compliant with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company operational requirements
• Monitor parts inventory, tools, and equipment while communicating maintenance needs to supervisors
• Respond to roadside breakdowns, emergency repairs, or urgent maintenance situations as required
• Assist with vehicle inspections, licensing documentation, and maintenance compliance records
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized shop and work environments
• Collaborate with operations, drivers, and maintenance leadership to support fleet reliability and operational efficiency
• Follow OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety policies and procedures at all times
• Perform additional maintenance and repair duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle, diesel, or fleet maintenance
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical diagnostics, and hydraulic repairs
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, power tools, and shop equipment
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair procedures
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and time-management abilities
• Familiarity with DOT regulations, EPA standards, and workplace safety practices
• Ability to lift heavy parts and work in various physical positions within shop or outdoor environments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational safety and quality

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical certification or vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
• Experience within waste management, recycling, transportation, logistics, or industrial operations
• ASE certifications or additional mechanical certifications preferred
• Experience with fleet maintenance systems and preventative maintenance software
