Member of Technical Staff, Android Platform (AOSP)

logcat.ai is the AI engineering layer for the operating-system stack. We build agentic systems for Linux and Android devices: we ingest the diagnostic artifacts a device emits (bugreports, logcat, dmesg, modem traces, ramdumps, perfetto, pcap, CAN) and help device makers diagnose, remediate, test, and author features across their OS stack, grounded in their own BSP. A VC-backed startup with a small, senior team you work directly with the founders.

We recently raised a $2.55M pre-seed. The product is scaling and the customer list is growing. The team is still small, so you'll own what you build.

Be the second person on the team who can go all the way down into Android: the platform services, the HALs, the policy and the build.

Most Android failures that reach us aren't app bugs. They're a system service that stalled, a HAL that returned something the framework didn't expect, or a policy denial nobody noticed until a device shipped. Our platform investigates those failures from the files a device produces and proposes a fix against the customer's own source. You'll make its Android reasoning sharper, check its answers against what really happened, and join customer calls as the person who knows the platform well enough to argue with it.

We'd especially like to meet you if you also bring cellular modem or Linux kernel depth. Android meets the modem at the radio interface and sits on the kernel everywhere, so either combination makes you one person where we'd otherwise need two.

We aren't in a hurry to fill this seat, and we'd rather wait for the right person than hire the closest one. This is not an app development role. You'll work below the SDK.

A note on location
This role is remote, with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with Pacific or IST based on location. We'd prefer someone who can be on-site in Seattle or Bengaluru, but it isn't required. You must be eligible to work in the country you're based in.

The bar

• At least two of:
• • Shipped a system service, daemon or privileged component on a production AOSP-based build that other people's devices ran.
  • Owned its SELinux policy, init configuration or platform signing.
  • Carried a device or vendor tree through a major Android version upgrade.
  • Root-caused a platform failure (system_server, binder, a HAL, an ANR storm) from a bugreport and fixed it in platform code.
• You take devices apart for fun. You root your own phones, build and flash your own kernels, and have a dev board or two on your desk. We'll ask what you broke most recently.
• You can walk a customer's engineers through a root cause clearly, in English, and hold your ground when the evidence is on your side.
• Proficient in day-to-day work with CLI-based AI coding tools like Claude Code (or an equivalent). It's how the team operates, not a nice-to-have.

What you'll do

• Work alongside a founder on Android platform investigations and remediations, and be the one who can take over when they're on something else.
• Join customer calls as the Android platform expert: explain what failed, why, and what the fix should be.
• Check the platform's Android analysis against what actually happened on the device, and say plainly where it's wrong.
• Encode platform reasoning (system services, binder, HALs, init, SELinux, the vendor and system split) so the platform gets it right without you in the room.

• Cellular modem work at the RIL and radio HAL boundary.
• Linux kernel and driver work, including reading kernel crash dumps.
• Treble, GKI and vendor interface work.
• OEM or ODM experience shipping devices.
• On-device agents for fleets or device management.
• Accepted contributions to AOSP.
