Position Overview
This role holds a senior technical authority for Drive Unit manufacturing processes spanning rotor/stator, gearbox, motor integration, HV connection, sealing, EOL and NVH, with ownership of process architecture, APQP/PPAP, capability, yield, cost and future product readiness. Mission: Deliver safe, capable and sustainable Powertrain operations while accelerating local technical capability and launch readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Full and complete ownership and responsibilities for all technical aspects of Drive unit
Process technical ownership
· Define end-to-end process flow, specifications, parameters, critical characteristics, control methods and reaction plans.
· Own: PFD, PFMEA, Control Plan, SWI, shop setup, centerline and change-control coherence across DU operations.
· Lead DFM/DFA, tolerance, tooling and testability reviews with Product Engineering, Supplier Quality, Test and AME.
Validation, APQP & launch
· Lead equipment/process validation, MSA and calibration, capability, run-at-rate and PPAP evidence within applicable IATF/APQP expectations.
· Set first-off-tool, pilot, safe-launch and release-to-production criteria; govern deviation and action closure.
Yield, quality & cost
· Own FPY/Cpk/yield/scrap roadmap; use SPC, DoE and structured problem solving on chronic losses.
· Drive cycle-time, labor, material and warranty-risk reduction while protecting process capability and safety.
· Own manufacturing-related warranty claims and field issues and implement timely PCA, and work cross-functionally to close all field issues.
Technical leadership & NPI
· Mentor engineers/technicians to enable technical-leadership across DU operations.
· Chair technical reviews and resolve cross-functional process risks.
· Lead manufacturing readiness for variants, design changes, localization and future programs.
· Interfaces with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Automation/Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, Supply Chain, IT/OT, HR/L&D and equipment suppliers as applicable.
· Skills-matrix, OJT, progression, cross-training and Saudi national capability transfer
· Data and documentation accuracy, audit readiness and disciplined handover and sign-off
Enterprise, launch & workforce expectations
· Safety: LOTO, guarding, interlocks, HV controls.
· Quality: protect product conformity, traceability and calibrated-tool discipline; contain abnormalities and preserve objective evidence.
· Delivery: support stable flow, takt/cycle achievement and rapid, structured escalation of constraints.
· Cost: reduce scrap, rework, downtime, energy and consumable losses through data-based countermeasures.
· People: build Saudi national capability through coaching, cross-training, ILU progression and knowledge transfer.
· Continuous improvement: participate and lead tier meetings, 5S, Kaizen, QRQC and closed-loop corrective action.
Saudization & Capability
· Build Saudi national capabilities and mentor Saudi national engineers/technicians in discipline-specific skills and structured problem-solving
· Develop training materials, competency matrices, and OJT plans
Skills
· Deep E-motor/gearbox manufacturing knowledge
· PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, and SPC mastery under IATF 16949
· Strong thermal, environmental, and dry-room process knowledge
· Leadership, passion for building new industry and for developing people
· Technical standards, structured problem solving, risk-based decision making and controlled documentation
· Data literacy: KPI definition, trend analysis, evidence-based validation and clear executive/shop-floor communication
· Cross-functional influence, supplier coordination and disciplined ownership in a greenfield launch environment
· Coaching, competency assessment and knowledge transfer in a multicultural English/Arabic workplace
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or manufacturing engineering; Master’s in Engineering highly preferred
· 8+ years in advanced automotive/EV manufacturing with 5+ years in senior DU/traction-motor process roles
· Strong IATF/APQP and greenfield-launch record
· English fluency; Arabic preferred
· Preferred: Six Sigma Black Belt and digital-manufacturing expertise
· TPM/Autonomous Maintenance and Lean problem-solving methods
· Experience developing local technical talent in a multicultural workforce
· Must be able to work around automated equipment and, where authorized, high-voltage Powertrain products.
Compensation & Benefits: Lucid offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; paid time off; paid holidays, paid sick leave; and a 401(k) retirement plan. Hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off. Eligible employees may also participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program. Incentive and equity awards, if applicable, are determined based on individual performance, role scope, market considerations, and overall company results, in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
