    Job description

The Application Development Manager will lead the design, delivery, and quality of our custom software applications. This role owns the application development lifecycle, engineering standards, and cross-functional delivery across product and business teams.
This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll set technical direction and delivery strategy, but you're also comfortable diving into architecture, code review, and hands-on problem-solving when needed.
The base salary range for this role is $120,000– $160,000 salary. This position is eligible for a discretionary performance-based bonus. The exact bonus is not guaranteed and will vary based on individual performance, team results, and company performance. Actual pay will be determined by factors such as education, experience, and job-related skills relevant to the role. Marcus & Millichap is a multi-state employer and posted salary ranges are provided in good faith for compliance with all relevant pay-transparency regulations. These ranges may not reflect potential compensation for positions based in other states or regions.
    This position is fully remote.

    Key Responsibilities

    Application Development & Architecture

    • Own the architecture, design, and delivery of custom applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance
    • Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and application architecture best practices
    • Guide technology and framework decisions across the application portfolio (e.g., .NET, Node.js, React, or similar)
    • Oversee application security practices, including secure coding standards, code review, and vulnerability remediation
    • Ensure applications meet performance, reliability, and accessibility requirements

    Delivery & Engineering Practices

    • Lead the software development lifecycle (SDLC) from requirements through deployment and support
    • Drive Agile/Scrum delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release management
    • Partner with QA and DevOps teams to ensure robust testing, CI/CD integration, and reliable releases
    • Own application quality, technical debt management, and code review standards
    • Establish metrics and reporting to track delivery velocity, quality, and application health

    Stakeholder & Product Collaboration

    • Partner with product owners and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
    • Own the application roadmap in partnership with product management, balancing new features, technical debt, and platform stability
    • Collaborate with Integrations, Data, and Infrastructure teams to ensure applications interoperate cleanly across the technology ecosystem
    • Set standards for API design, data handling, and system interoperability as they relate to application development

    Leadership & Collaboration

    • Manage, mentor, and develop application development engineers
    • Establish team processes, documentation, and engineering operational standards
    • Collaborate with teams to improve development, testing, and release workflows
    • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to meet organizational and regulatory requirements
    • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
    • 7+ years of experience in application/software development, with 3+ years in a leadership or management role
    • Strong hands-on background in one or more modern application stacks (e.g., .NET/C#, Node.js, React, Angular)
    • Proven experience owning application architecture and technical decision-making for business-critical systems
    • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and API design/integration patterns
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and CI/CD-driven delivery pipelines
    • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies
    • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional communication skills
    • Experience working within regulated or audit-driven environments (e.g., SOX) is a plus
