Volunteer - Companion - Heartlands Hospital Birmingham

Ever been told you have a calming presence or you're great at putting individuals at ease simply by being there?

We’d love to tell you about our Companion Volunteer role taking place at the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. You don’t need a medical background or all the answers – just a kind heart, a listening ear and a little time to give. Be there when it matters.

Availability: 3 hours per week, weekdays

Location: Heartlands Hospital, Bordesley Green, Birmingham B9 5SS

Criteria: Minimum 18 years or older. A criminal records check is required for this opportunity. Marie Curie will cover the cost for you

What you’ll do: 

• Visit different patients at the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham
• Each visit may be with a different person, offering variety and new conversations
• Share a cup of tea, a chat, or simply quiet companionship
• Listen to stories, memories, or just talk about the everyday

You’d be a great fit if you’re:

• Caring and compassionate nature
• Patience and good listening skills
• Comfortable with sensitive topics, such as death, dying and bereavement
• Able to commit to 3 hours a week
• Comfortable with email and completing a brief visit report
• Respectful of boundaries and confidentiality
