Intern, Business Process Improvement

The Martin Marietta Summer Business Process Improvement Internship is designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting strategic supply chain initiatives and business improvement projects. This approximately 10-week program offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world business environment while developing analytical, project management, process improvement, and leadership skills.

Reporting to members of the Business Process Improvement team, the BPI Intern will work alongside professionals supporting procurement, business analytics, process improvement, and other key business functions. Interns contribute to projects that drive operational efficiency, support business decision-making, and improve processes across the organization. This position is based at Martin Marietta's corporate headquarters in Raleigh, NC, and provides exposure to a wide range of supply chain and business operations activities. Many of Martin Marietta's leaders began their careers as interns, making this program an excellent pathway to future career opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow and promote Martin Marietta's safety, ethical, and compliance standards in all work activities.
• Support department leaders in planning, coordinating, and driving projects to successful completion.
• Assist teams in developing project charters, schedules, timelines, and implementation plans.
• Lead and support small-scale projects focused on process development, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and problem-solving.
• Research best practices and help define, document, and standardize business processes.
• Assist in implementing process improvements, innovative solutions, and policy enhancements that support organizational objectives.
• Conduct quantitative analysis of operational and business data to identify trends, opportunities, and improvement priorities.
• Develop reports, presentations, and visualizations that support business decisions and leadership communication.
• Support the maintenance and improvement of business processes, systems, and data management practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations, Finance, and other business functions.
• Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, Values, policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, engineering, finance, operations management, or a closely related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
• Experience working with and analyzing data.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to research, learn, and work independently.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to create high-quality visuals and communicate insights effectively.
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to quickly learn new systems, technologies, and business processes.
