Assembly Technician I - 1st shift (Cranberry, PA)

MEPPI’s Switchgear Division (SWGD) is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Assembly Technician I to support the assembly, testing, and shipment of switchgear products. In this role, you will perform mechanical assembly and basic electrical connection tasks while ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and production efficiency.

What You'll Do

Assemble Switchgear Components: Assemble frames, bushings, and sub-assemblies for circuit breakers, parts orders, and related products according to company specifications, engineering drawings, and work orders.

Perform Basic Electrical Connections: Complete basic electrical connections on products in accordance with wiring diagrams and company specifications.

Prepare Products for Shipment: Perform ship-preparation activities including applying RTV sealant, touching up paint, wrapping breakers, bushings, and cabinets, and packaging products for shipment.

Utilize Manufacturing Tools: Safely and effectively use a variety of hand and power tools to assemble components and finished products.

Interpret Technical Documentation: Read and understand technical drawings, mechanical blueprints, and bills of material to ensure assembly accuracy and compliance.

Inspect & Verify Quality: Inspect subassemblies and completed assemblies using specialized test equipment, visual inspections, and measurement devices. Identify and correct defects as required.

Verify Materials & Processes: Confirm correct materials are used according to parts lists and specifications, and identify any process or material issues.

Maintain Production Documentation: Complete process check sheets, production reports, and other required paperwork in accordance with company procedures.

Support Department Excellence: Further the goals and professional image of SWGD through effective interaction with customers, vendors, and internal departments.

Champion Safety & Compliance: Maintain knowledge of MEPPI’s Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies and understand how they apply to daily work activities.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on assembly and testing tools and equipment as required.
• Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment.
• Assist with on-the-job training of other employees as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Technical Skills

• Basic understanding of computer applications
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through the effective use of hand and power tools
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and bills of material
• Required safety and operational training to operate equipment such as forklifts and cranes

Skills & Attributes

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to safely and correctly use hand tools, power tools, and measurement devices
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, mechanical blueprints, and bills of material
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to inspect subassemblies and finished products for quality and conformance
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Ability to evaluate workmanship against established specifications and standards
• Ability to operate powered equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes
• Ability to climb and work up to 10 feet above ground level for extended periods
• Ability to stand, sit, crawl, squat, kneel, twist, bend, and reach overhead as required
• Ability to work primarily in an indoor manufacturing environment and occasionally outdoors as needed
